    Getting route maps 4 long drives.

    Hi guys,
    Yesterday I was tryin to find the road map for our Daman ride and found this site.
    You can get the custom map btn any two places. zoom into the map, find the roads etc...

    In this map, you can find the addresses(5* though) of hotels, find air ports etc...

    Map multiple locations, get transit/walking/driving directions, view live traffic conditions, plan trips, view satellite, aerial and street side imagery. Do more with Bing Maps.


    And in this, you have many themes of maps, like, geographical, roads, and you can find the distance using the tool.

              Respectfully, it helps only in the planning, area selection phase. In India, the maps do no justice to the thickness or existence of roads

              I use the TTK Road maps that are foldable! They're better for on-the-road purpose IMHO, though something like the official state highways map would be real helpful!

                  @hitanshu -You are spot on . Some of the roads exist in the map, not on the ground, and vice versa. This is especially true of the minor roads, but applicable to ome of the major ones as well. Also they do not tell you whether construction work is on. Best to have a tentative plan, and keep gathering local knowledge as u move on.

                    That's the directions from my house to a friend's office. Mapquest gives you the directions from anywhere to anywhere in the US (and Europe too).

                    @SUNNY: New India-specific website idea for you. Get in touch with Nav-tech and make your own XBHP-Pathfinder or something exclusive for members on the same lines.

                      I agree with you These maps only help in planning. Shall I suggest you the best way?, Ask any Lorry wallah for the directions and you will get the the best.
                      I took a printout of the route map for the Daman ride, and we had to ask for the route, MANY TIMES...[B)]
                      @Vivek: you can find the same thing for US and europe in the same site, lets see if sunny develops some thing in the near future for the xBhpians

                        Yeah, I should've mentioned. Lorry wallas are a good bet. More so, the interstate fellas, who might speak Hindi better than an average fella. In India, you cant use www.maporama.com or mapquest.com like Vivek. I travelled entire Europe with a backpack and maporama.com printouts. That don't work here :P

                        However, Booo, you have an excellent point. The question here is of REINVENTING the WHEEL. Among us, we have riders who've covered almost ALL parts of India, and the rarest of destinations. Is there any way to build a central repository of routes, directions that can be used to give riders a concrete idea?

                        The first thing that comes to my mind is a xBHP-Wiki. That would solve the entire problem, and would be editable. For security reasons, write access could be restricted to users with more than 50/100/... posts. What do you think people?

                          can u xplain what would be xbhp-wiki???
                          i think it would require a hell lot of resources to do what has been done with maporama.com
                          and one person certainly cant do it....though if sunny is willing to implement the idea...of course with some help from others i have no doubt that he would be a millionaire in no time..
