Venture into southern beauty - The other side of the story!

Kashif! My post here has been LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG overdue! Sorry about that!

No dude... actually I didnt get ANY back pain at all! I myself was surprised with that! There could be 2 reasons for this:
          1. I was monitoring my posture very very carefully... and was taking a lot of care to keep good posture.
          2. I had my bag tied behind me on the rear seat. So sometimes, I could rest a little, using that as a back rest.

          Weather was "good"??!!
But yes, it did add a different aspect to the journey, and to the sights and sounds.

Trust me people, I have seen tea gardens almost all my life. (I am from Assam). But none as beautiful as the ones in Munnar!! It looked straight out of a painting!

After a turn I saw a very unfortunate view.Sam had an accident.
A qualis standing at the middle of road and 4-5 guys helping out Sam getting out of the shock.
My reaction was...sam is standing on his feet....thank god he is safe.
Sam told that he had a head on collision with the jeep and then he collided with side railing behind which lied the deep valley.
the moment was scary. All thanks to god otherwise anything could have happened.
Actually he was ridng down hill and his tyre skid while braking. The jeep had almost stopped by the time he hit it.
The body protectors saved him.deep scraches on the keep gards, elbow guards and the helmet.Gloves torn.
          Both handle bend,guard bend,front fairing broken.Accelarator struck.Shock abs leak...
His DSLR also fell of but thanksfully no damage.
I feel the guy was really really Lucky.

View From Railing Where We had The Accident

we released the accelator cable by hitting the handle with a stone.
Next 20 kms was down hill we rode at speeds 20-30 till we found a TVS service centre.

          How lucky was I???!!!!!!

I have written about it in my blog, how it was ABSO-F**KING-LUTELY the LUCKIEST DAY of my life!!

Around the township,I forgot the name of this place.Madurai is 90 kms from here.

First service of my bike : Getting the chain tightened.
The place was called "Bodi". And honestly... I was only looking for a mechanic who could straighten out my handle bar or atleast free the accelerator a bit, so that I could get to Madurai. Imagine my shock when the locals (with whom we had a HUUUGE language gap!) directed us to a full blown TVS service centre!

Moreover, those guys were really helpful and friendly. They repaired everything in double time, because they knew we had to get to Madurai. So what would have usually taken 10 hours, they did it only in 5!

A warm see-off from TVS guys

          Lol.. Me too!

Sorry about not posting anything about this earlier! I shall post more about the trip.

Meanwhile, here is another pic by Kashif. ( i have done some editing and cropping.. hope you dont mind Kashif )

          And some others by me:

After conquering the infamous 36 hair-pin bends of Ooty!

          Coming down from Ooty

Another shot while coming down from Ooty.

          On the way to Munnar

We had some serious differences in points of view!

          Poser! :P

We ate the best food. Or whatever we could find!

Heavenly Munnar! (Damn you rain-god! For not letting us take more pictures here! )

Munnar again. (Can someone please tell me what trees are those? )

          Inside Meenakshi temple

Inside Meenakshi temple, we were witness to ONE REALLLY different/ weird/ amazing/ mind-blowing custom! They took the goddess out in a palanquin, took her for a ride around the temple (all the while accompanied by LOUD shehnai music and drums). Then, after putting the palanquin on a stand, I THINK they washed her feet with milk or something like that... while all the devotees went round and round in circles around her. And THEN it got even weirder. The devotees bent down and touched their heads to the ground, where the milk drops had fallen!! (No offence to anybody... but MAN! INDIA IS ONE HELLUVA WEIRD PLACE!!!!!)
( I had a lot of fun looking at the faces of the ABSOLUTELY bewildered foreigners present there! The looks on their faces were HILARIOUS!! )

Kashif - showing his best side! :P
(Sorry Kashif! This one just HAD to be shared!! )

          And finally, ME!

Although I have not written much on my blog about the trip, I have written about something that I learned from it. The most surprising change that happened, was in my opinion of the Indian govt. If you want to know why, read here.

Looking forward to the next trip now!
