1. it is not required in advance. Once you reach Leh, visit the office and get the permit for khardung la or beyond. any local guy will help you on the location of the office. you may need your RC, passport or pancard or license.

2. June is a very good time. U may have a lot of traffic. i went in end of sept and the start of oct... abs no vehicle around... truly out of civilization. But sadly no rain as well
