Well, I would say, that its better to visit Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, the Rann, and then check out any Gujarati beaches, which are pretty decent. I could draw up a itinerary for you.

Catch me on messenger anytime, and we'll sort issues out.

Ahmedabad to Delhi is somewhere around 800 km. Himmatnagar, Udaipur, Ajmer, Jaipur. The roads are fabulous (watch out for cattle) except for two stretches - one as you reach Ajmer, and another at the Jaipur bypass (four laning work is on here). The second actually sends you onto a ****ty bumpy side road for almost 30+ km, it would make sense to travel through Jaipur instead, as the highway connecting jaipur fort to delhi is extremely good. Some construction work is on elsewhere too, but is not something that could slow you down significantly. You should get an average of at least 70 kph - upto you as to how many breaks you want to take. Definitely do able in one day, but no time for anything else.

One caution though, as you approach Delhi, the road has a central divider with shrubbery, through which people, vehicles etc pop out with some regularity. Keep off the right lane unless you want to practise emergency braking.

No No man. It is totally crazy in there. A few kilometres inside, and you cannot see ****. With high powered binoculars, when we couldn't see a three floor salt mill, and could only see its mirage, We had to turn back.

Believe me, its kinda similar to your Ladakh trip, with no human around for miles, Wherever I may Roam, is THE most apt thing man. You've got to close your eyes and then imagine dude!
