Good ride and good pictures too. Guess you took the Dhalli-Naldehra-Basantpur-Sunni-Tatapani route? The Tatapani banks used to be a lot wider till their local topography underwent a drastic change wrought by the year 2000 flash flood in Sutlej.

Your description of the return route brings back memories. The back-roads of Himachal are a treat for the 'not-so-rushed' rider. For the past decade or so, been going and staying at a village (Mashroo) near Sairi on the Kunihar - Tutu road. (My father's service-time colleague lives there). Usually take the Dharampur-Subathu-Gambhar pul-Kunihar-Mamlig route. Just love to ride in rhythm with the twisties on such roads. Try the FRH at Sirighat sometime. Great location, right in the middle of a forest, about a km off and above the road. And a frequent prowling ground for panthers too, esp during long winter nights. Saw them twice.

Thanks Old Fox, sir. I took the Naldehra-Basantpur-Tatapani route while going. Was planning on returning via Karsog-Luri-Sainj-Narkanda but due to prior commitments I coudnt. So returned via Seoni-Dhami-Shalaghat-Arki-Kunihar.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the village you are talking about either falls in between Arki-Kunihar or lies somwhere on the road to Nalagarh. Anyways, its a lovely place to ride on. I prefer that route to the NH-22, most of the times.

And also , please give me more info on Sirighat. The name doesnt seem to strike a chord. I will try it in the forthcoming weeks.

If you ever try something like this again, a quickie, but have the urge a day in advance, check me out - I might join you - even if it means riding Del-chd-Del alone

Mashroo village is near Sairi. And Sairi is some 6kms from Jubbarhatti airport. It is not between Arki-Kunihar but between Kunihar-Shimla.

As for getting to Sirighat FRH, reach Kunihar and take the road to Shimla. (as you know, from Kunihar, one road goes to Arki, one to nalagarh and one to Shimla. If you're riding down from Dharampur side, take a right from the main Kunihar crossing). Some 16kms from here (you'll pass Mamlig village on the way) the road passes between rockwalls flanking it. Some 2 kms beyond and on the left, a narrow dirt road goes up. There is a board indicating the presence of the rest house there.

Check out this pic of the place. Taken some 3-4 years ago. Its still the same.

Bingo! Thanks.. Will try it out soon. The Arki - Shimla route is one that still remains unexplored by me.

Kurt bro, your travelogues are always something 'different' from the usual stuff and thats what keeps me glued to em when they come out.

And, your way with putting words in your trip logs is just fantastic!

Lovely trip, superb log and wonderful pictures there!

I hope to ride with you someday!
