  • [Photo Feature]: A ride to see the beautiful Amboli ghats.

    Trip summary :
    Dharwad (karnataka) to Amboli (maharashtra)
    3 bikers 2 bikes 1 day
    P200 and FZ16
    300+ kms

Hello everyone....i had a one day trip to Amboli ghats, maharashtra last weekend along with two of my colleagues. Amboli is some 150 kms from Dharwad, where we stay. We were planning to make a trip for sometime and it was decided to go on sunday while two of us met up for a dinner on saturday. So out of the hotel, we went straight to fill our bikes and check the air pressure. We started the trip at about 5:45 a.m with me having slept for just 4 hours. But the excitement was keeping me wide awake at this unearthly hour. We took the NH4 till belgaum which is some 70 odd kilometers away. The road is great and we tested our top speed. The early morning ride turned out to be smooth and refreshing. We stopped at belgaum for breakfast. After some time spent on looking for the road to amboli, we set out to amboli. The roads were good for most of the parts except for a few stretches There were some twisties which we enjoyed. At last we reached Amboli and must say, the view was breathtaking!!!....what a sight... it was like being in the grand canyons, but a greener one ....we went to 2-3 viewpoints over there. The place was being frequented by tourists from the northern part of maharashtra.

i kept it short because i didn't want anyone to sleep off while reading a long travelogue with each and every detail possible. Also this was a one day trip and the places to see were limited to the magnificent view of the Amboli ghats.
Well we reached amboli after some 3 hours of riding and were surprised to see ourselves at the top of the Amboli ghat section road. Actually we were on the highlands and suddenly the rest of the terrain turned out to be in low lying area. There are many viewpoints at amboli from where you can see the amazing valleys formed by the western ghats. We went to 3 such viewpoints during our 2 hours spent there. One was a waterfall situated near the ghat road. The whole falls were surrounded by cut rocks and water was flowing down the stairs meant for the travelers....It was a beautiful sight. I would call it "stairway to heaven". After that we went to two other viewpoints. the photos would speak about the view better than words. The climate was pretty good and i feel its a summer hideout for the people from the cities. The real beauty of the place lies in the fact that this area has not been explored by our vast population unlike the other famous tourist spots. So the forests are still intact and we can really spend some time alone looking at the blue sky and the green valleys without the disturbing crowds at the viewpoints.....
