  • [Photo Feature]: 1200kms to Sun & Sand.. Om Beach

Om Beach, at Gokarna, in north west Karnataka, is one of the most secluded paradise beaches on earth. From the busy schedule of our lives, three of us, Rahul Devnath (me), Rahul Kumar, and Rahul Prithiani , took a break to this paradise.

The trip was supposed to be short, swift and scenic.

Our route was Bangalore - Shimoga - Gokarna - Hubli - Bangalore, and covered approx 1200Kms in 4 days. Trip log soon. A Glimpse..

The trip was planned to be short. We didn't had much time to spend. All in all the trip went on as planned and was uneventful.

Bikes involved were 1 x 220 Dtsi and 1 X 220 DTS-fi. A saddle and a Tank bag, some tools and Tubeless puncture repair kit. Essentials Life support, like Helmets, Jackets, Boots and pants

        Day 1

We started our journey at 03:00 hrs. As planned we avoided the overcrowded exit of Bangalore, (thanks to Metro, everything is in a mess). And headed straight towards Shimoga, via Tumkur.

A non-stop high speed run till 5:30am helped us covering about 180Kms. After a couple of piping hot tea, down our throat, we continued towards our first destination, Jog Falls.

By 7, the morning was well set in, and were easily maintaining 100+ on 2 lane highway, thanks to almost nil traffic.

        From Wiki:

Jog Falls (Kannada: ಜೋಗ ಜಲಪಾತ), created by the Sharavathi River falling from a height of 253 meters (829 ft) is the highest plunge waterfall in India[1] Located in Shimoga District of Karnataka state, these segmented falls are a major tourist attraction. It is also called by alternative names of Gerusoppe falls, Gersoppa Falls and Jogada Gundi.

There are many waterfalls in Asia - and also in India - which drop from a higher altitude. But, unlike those falls, Jog Falls is untiered, i.e., it drops directly and does not stream on to rocks. Thus, it can be described as the highest untiered waterfalls in India.

After spending about 30 minutes, we continued towards Gokarna. There's was no halt for Breakfast and Lunch, as the roads were now bad and Ghat Section. Stopping for food meant, loosing precious time.

Thankfully reached Gokarana, by 15:45 hrs. By Now, we were dead tired, and our moral was lying on the floor, somewhere. After all there's were no end to bad stretches of road.

But the very first glimpse, of the Sea, ignited the spirit in us. Ambient temperature was high and humid, but the sea was so inviting, that we couldn't stop and click pictures.

Good Pics & log, it was a little disappoint that there is no water in jog falls.
          Give way to trains.

We continued towards, Om Beach, and settled down at one of the beach resorts.

                Day 2,3,4

Spent the remaining two days exploring different beaches. Which included almost 11Km rinding on the beach, getting stuck and such. I do'nt have much to write.. but I guess pics will do the talking

No it doesn't. By default it's not that dark either.

                  Some more pics.

Jog Falls...I had gone there when I was a kid. Hope to go there soon again touring!
IIRC, the names of the 4 falls are Raja, Rani, Rover&Rocket, correct?
