Paaji if you know the story of AREY WAH you would also doing the same throughout the day.

First part of the triplog and pics (till GOKAK falls)

I was at standard 8 or 9; I read a adventure Bengali story of a famous writer Mr. Sunil Gangopadhaya – characterized as KAKABABU & SANTU. The story was about a diamond which was in Hampi, there were no pictures in the story book but the author narrated so skillfully that I was dreaming myself in Hampi from that day. But it took some years to realize the dream.

Initially Shadowboy and myself were planning to taste the Hyderabadi Biriyani, but the ongoing disturbance there distracted us and we changed our destination to Hampi. Once we changed our destination Beruoist jumped into and joined us. The plan was set as meeting time 4AM at Kalamboli McD and to reach Hampi by 8PM. We were not too much aware of the road condition. It was decided we will ride till Sankeshwar in NH4 and then move towards Hampi via Gokak falls and Badami caves. It was our plan but our Master had something different for us.

                  Kalamboli McD at 4AM

I was leading with by P200 while Shadowboy and Beruoist were following me with their R15. Till Pune the road was very much familiar to all of us, we were able to cruise at 90kmph. On the way before Lonavala we met a white car; initially looking he was interested to play Police & thief with us but actually he was trying to talk to us seeing the xbhp sticker on our bikes. We stopped there for 5 minutes and had a small chat with Mr. Rishi – he is a member of the stunt group from Pune and he invited us to visit his place.

Our first big stop was planned at Pune at around 6 AM, we were leading our own time schedule and most likely Master was not happy with the same. At around 50 kms from Satara I hit a big stone roadside and made a bend in my front wheel. Immediately the air pressure was at zero and it was time for halt. While having some tea I tried to seal the gap with some bubble gum but I was looking for M seal but it was in store not with us. I was really scared thinking about what will go to happen with the rest of the ride, we are just at the start. Shadowboy suggested me to put a tube and ride on. Finally looking for a shop at 7 AM in NH4 we got some help. Beruoist found a shop where the problem can be solved. We were still before our projected time but I was scared with the new tube.

We stopped before Kolhapur at a bridge on NH4 for photo session

After riding till Kolhapur it was time to fill up our stomach. After hunting for a good restaurant we hoped into one and parked our bike. We were aliens to the people in the restaurant there. Shadow was interested in MISAL PAV but it was out of stock at 9 AM. Shadow was quite disappointed and managed with some SHEERA. Its time again to back on track and again a surprise was waiting for me. My bikes front tire had a puncture. I was in confusion whether we will be able to reach Hampi on time. Luckily a puncture repair shop was near the restaurant. These mechanics did neither work on a tube less tire nor a alloy wheel with disc brake. He damaged my tire by piercing it and left a lot of marks on the alloy. But I didn’t have any other option left other than that. He fixed the puncture somehow and managed to put the front axle back in place with his 3 assistants. Yamaha R15 and Pulsar200 is a SBK to them.

Its time to gain time now, we opened throttle after Kolhapur. We were just flying on NH4. It was decided to take a left turn fro Gokak falls from Sankeshwar on NH4. On reaching there we took a left turn and asked for Gokak falls. It was time to fill up the tanks. You have carry cash for fuel from this point – somewhere I read about it and we 3 were fully prepared for that. We reached Gokak falls at around 1PM traveling through the State Highways, the roads were not in very good condition but still it was in a condition to ride at 70kmph.

There was proper parking for the bikes @ Rs.5/-. We moved towards the hanging bridge there, but after walking to the other side we came to know that the bridge is for the employees of the Gokak mills only and not for public use. It was swinging like a pendulum, we 3 were really scared about it but after some time we get used to it. Gokak waterfall was not visible from there, but one could here the sound of the same. Me and Shadowboy were too much tired of going downstairs imagining that we have to come upstairs again, and we 2 decided to take rest near the temple. Beruoist could not resist himself to capture some shots of the Gokak waterfall. He same back after 15 minutes. It was around 2 PM and its time for lunch. On investigation we came to know about GOKAK restaurant and headed towards it.

The hanging bridge at Gokak falls

Arey wah - Rohit and Asish

He was looking so intelligent and thinking of something that I could not resist myself to click.

We read it later and fortunately nobody stopped us to use the bridge

We took a big lunch and it took its toll later on food was excellent at the restaurant. It was around 4 PM we started again towards Hampi and we need to cover 300 kms more from there. On querying for the route towards our final destination we took State highway and the most amazing thing – not a single milestone was written in Hindi or English, everywhere you see Kannad is there (I guessed it as Kannad – I cant read Kannad language). After having the problem with the plastic money the next roadblock for us was the language. But somehow Beruoist was able to manage the localities and he was leading the rest two. It was 6 PM; we need to cover 150 kms more to reach Hampi. I was getting scared of night riding recalling the event in the morning. In addition to this Beruoist and me were not having a clear visor – we both were having a tinted one. Its call for Shadow to lead us – without wasting time we started again and yes the nightmare started. The number of trucks we have seen that night in 2-3 hours is still the highest number of trucks we have seen in our life. A very little gap was available for our bikes to cut the traffic on NH13. I jumped with my bike in numerous potholes and sometimes my front shock absorber reminded me about its limit. We were not much tired of riding on NH4 at 120 kmph but we lost all our energy while riding on NH13 at 40kmph. After every 20-30 kms a row of light was visible from the highway and I was thinking – yes that’s it, the end of this nightmare. But it was just starting – a truck was coming in front of me, I was riding in low beam, I used the dipper to low down trucks high beam and my low beam was shut down. It was gone – we stopped for a couple of minutes to check the light and yes its gone – I have to ride with high beam only. There was no point of stopping there more and we started again. Hardly we have ridden 50-60 kms – I became a killer. I ran over a dog steadily without falling down and my rear break pedal took a U turn. Again we stopped – I make it back to its original position – luckily I was carrying a good toolkit.

We reached Hospet – 30 kms from Hampi. Everyone was tired and especially I was not any more interested to ride. So it was decided to halt at Hospet. After hunting for rooms we got a very decent room at Pai Lodge at Rs.575/- - a non AC one. Shadowboy took a long time to make the waiter understand about our menu. Finally he gave up and made 3 different cheats with the orders which helped out the poor boy. After having food I can’t remember what happened in the room – official Paparazzi was sleeping tight and some upcoming one took a special edition photo.

                  DAY 2 – 3rd January 2010

It was 10 AM – Shadowboy wake me up to get ready for Hampi. Within 1 hour we 3 were on the road with our cameras. The road to Hampi at some corners will make you think about Goa for a while. First we visited Virupaksh temple and before that parked our bikes safely where we had our brunch. There was a strange rule of parking bikes – facing towards the temple there one can park vehicles on left on even dates only and on right on odd dates only. The Virupaksh temple has a closure time of 1PM to 2PM. We covered as much we can – still there were more to see. While exiting the Virupaksh temple its worth visit Hemkuta temple. One can see the dumping of large stones there and surprisingly the architecture of dumping the stones was unique. The large stones were at the top of the stack and the smaller stones were at the bottom – the whole structure was rock solid.

While roaming here and there we reached near Hampi police station which was itself a architecture of stones. Some people there were not ready to believe that we came from Mumbai on a single day with R15s - according to their stats we won over ST and Volvo. Later on we moved decided to move towards Vitthala temple – as I have seen this name almost everywhere in Hampi.

The Vitthala temple is unique in its own. The vast area of the temple was covered with sculptures. I can’t describe it in words -

Its time for the coracle ride now – heading towards the Tungabhadra river we came back to the Virupaksha temple. The way to the river is behind the temple. I was disappointed a little bit – no coracle was available to sail on. A Yamaha driven boat was available there to cross the river. They charge 15 bucks for one way – its too costly for the distance and you have to pay the same charge if you have bike, moped or a bicycle and remember the last boat is at 6PM. On reaching the other side of the river I saw a inverted coracle – it was not in a condition to sail. The other side of the river looks like Goa - foreigners everywhere roaming around and facilities were also available for them.

It was 4PM – we were in a dilemma to stay for the night and start early in the morning or to cover the bad stretch of the road in daylight within 6PM and hit NH4 in night so that we can take rest the whole day at home which in turn will help us to work in office on 5th January.

It was 5:30 PM we started towards Hubli. All 3 of us were shit scared of riding again on the road we rode last night – but we saved our butts from getting burnt again. Last night we took a wrong route – somebody guided us wrong and now we were on NH13 cruising at 90kmph. I saved again to get a tag of killer – it was a man who suddenly jumped in front of my bike as if he has a great interest to get hit by my bike. I braked hard – Shadowboy did a rolling stoppie, Beruosit was leading and he did not come to know about the incident. It was getting dark, Beruoist was not able to see properly and missed a dog to hit. It was time for Shadowboy to lead – we saved again to hit a tractor, it took a right turn suddenly in the highway without any signals. Hubli was still 80 kms away from us which means we have to ride 1 hour more to touch NH4.

It was 8Pm we reached Hubli, took a snacks break there. But ate a lot – can’t resist the Gulabjamuns. Later on moved towards Dharwad where the road meet NH4 bypassing the busy Hubli city traffic. It took almost 1 hour to hit NH4 – we were relaxed on getting the butter smooth highway.

                  DAY 3 – 4th January 2010

It was 6 AM we crossed Panvel, we did never realized how we covered 750kms in night. We took halts – I can remember the Sankeshwar, in between one more, one at Satara the next at Lonavala and the last one at home. It was nice ride and the place we visited was awesome – we should spend some more time there. I have to go through some major expenses to pamper my bike but it was a nice warm up ride for my upcoming grand ride.

Those who are planning to visit Hampi some useful information for them -

                  - Carry enough cash, no plastic money is accepted. ATMs are available at Hospet but you never know whether it will work for you. In our case we struggled with 2 of them, at last mine didn’t worked and I borrowed money from others
                  - Carry a proper detailed map
                  - Don’t worry about the fuel, easily available
                  - Language is a big problem
                  - Schedule your ride HUBLI – HAMPI stretch in day time
                  - Spend at least 2 complete days to pay respect to the sculptures there
                  - Try to stay at the bungalow or cottages at the Tungabhadra river side
