Siddis are decendants of african migrants that arrived here over 600 years ago. They are natives of gujarat, they continue living the African way speaking the local dialect. Most of them have taken to islaam. Their dressing and lifestyles are Indianised over the years, while looks and hairstyles remain african in origin. A truly unique community by itself did not stop amusing me.
They indulge in variety of activity for earning a living. To mention some would be selling vegetables, conductor in a local bus, a guide in the forest. It was an experiece worth a visit to this unusual place. I was also a bit scary as they seemed a bit aggressive in demanding money for the pictures taken, more so as it is in Africa -- Masai mara and some parts of Sri Lanka where the pole fishing is done.
