Jaisalmer.... what a place! I seriously don’t have a lot to say…. To sum up Jaisalmer in one line, it’s a photographers (or rather motographers) paradise! I mean seriously the structure, in that bright golden sandstone is super fabulous! Calling it anything other than magnificent (or its superlative versions) would be an understatement!

If you are into landscape photography, or into fine macro photography or just abstract photography.... the street, the structure and everything around is incredible!

With sleepy eyes(purely mine) and the evening blind eyes (*cough*) we saw the view from the hotel..... the place where we would be heading to!

And ofcourse our bikes which will take us there.... now carefully parked at the Hotel veranda

A view from up closer near the market!

Our bikes parked inside, like probably the prince and the kings would park their steeds… err more to come!

Since the fort is huge, we decided to take a ride along its periphery and that only gave more and more options for the shutterbug in us to go crazy!

The Main gate! Notice the performers there!

So we parked the bikes and moved on.... little did we realize that you could take the bike further! but on second thoughts it was probably to leave it here!
Have a look at the gate!

We decided that this is probably the apt time to have something before we explore the place! So we snooped around and found a place called German Bakery.... (this is where Anup wrote a 'Hi' from me on the Mumbai G2G thread!)

A few sandwitches, some coffee later... time to roll!

This was one of the rides where we were pretty focused that we would make the most of the trip and learn and explore the place, rather than doing a quick cross country race

                    Some smart, handsome, dashing tourist

                    The wall....

This is where the story ends for now!... moving to a better cyber cafe where the keyboard and the monitor is a bit more pleasing to use!

Edit: Didnt find a cafe, went to the Pune G2G instead...

Ya i agree, time is the only factor thats stopping me...i come home really late, i dont get time during the day, mind is not at its best by the end of the day...
Anyway words wont do much justice to the beauty of the place, breathtaking views, the feel of the weather, silence that we experienced. I will make it a point to find sometime and continue the story...

                            Continued from Jaisalmer:
                            Some more pics:

Clear Blue sky, and awesome golden Jaisalmeri stone!

                            Artwork, almost everywhere!

One of the very few idols of Lord Rama which sports a Moustache and a beard....

Fight between the Gold vs Blue continues!

Courtyard and now sealed royal rooms

                            Abtract ones;

One shy uncle @ the Sonar Quilla, kept running away at the sight of the camera and covered his mouth.... but I outplayed him:

                            Architecture:
Notice the small passages which led to the womens section:
Big men find it difficult to strom into these passages and fighters are usually ready on another end... a small fight and a deadbody here would make the passage further more difficult ot negotiate!

Prince Anoop (more to come) running to check if his princess is ok! - Narrow Passages

Notice the difference from Jodphur the Blue city

NEED HELP IN STICHING THESE INTO A PANAROMA:

                            Oh and Anoops story continues:
                            A broader passage:

                            Finally - Anoops own Mahal:

                            The streets:

                            This is a HUGE structure:

This probably gives you a better idea of the dimension:

                            Veiw of the structure:

I tired my hand in playing this.... very soothing music I must say!

After exploring Jaisalmer, we began roaming around trying to figure out things to do… places to see…
We had two options to spend the night…
                            1) Head to ‘Sam’ (read as sum – and is surely awe-some!) (about 40KMS) or
                            2) Head to Khuri (about 40KMS as well)

These are the two more popular sand dunes… Sam is a bit more popular (and the place will let you know exactly why) than Khuri. When I say popular, I am assuming you also realise that it is a bit more crowded.

If and when you go to Jaisalmer, you absolutely HAVE to go to either of these places…. And of course do the ‘Desert Safari’

Usually a lot of small time agents in Jaisalmer will hook you up with other agents in the desert for a night safari thingy.
                            The night safari includes:
                            - Camel ride in the desert (sunrise or sunset) My money is on sunset, not because I love my sleep, but because its unbearably cold in the morning! Ask me about it I was standing out of the tent for sometime ‘chatting’/fighting/arguing with my girl friend on the phone that night !
                            - Food – Veggie rajasthani food (you can carry your own drinks and non veg food though)
                            - Cultural program which involves songs and dance and all… neat stuff (Anup has a lot of pictures for em)

We heard a lot about Sam and so decided to head there… we spoke to the Genwa guy who hooked us up with a deal.

The deals @ Desert safari is usually
                            - Sleep at desert, they will provide mattress and all - CHEAP
                            - Sleep in a mud house
                            - Camp at desert, they will provide mattress and all and also two guides to cook food and all 100% privacy - Pricey
                            - Sleep in a swiss tent with a all frills like warm water and a loo and all

We chose option 2 a mud hut, and had to cover 35KMs in 30minutes to see the sunset!
The road is a single lane road, with only sand and some more sand and sam-sand around!
People also do parasailing in some spots there!

We reached in time after a few hiccups and scaring some cages…. However not quite in time to catch the sun set… I mean we did reach before the sun set… but the ‘view’ is actually from a few KMs inside the desert and so we have to leave the bike at the Camp and proceed with camels so that we could see the sunset, but the camels would obviously be slower and ensure we don’t reach in time!
So we checked in … surprisingly the mud houses were full…. And so we were given a free upgrade to Swiss tent

We removed our knee guards, dropped the luggage at the tent as we planned to head to the sand dune ourselves and check what we could see…..!

So we went ahead from the camping site…. And then somewhere in the horizon we could see a LOT of camels and people there … everybody wanting to offer us a camel ride…. While Anup was busy bargaining with the Camel waalah, I took the chance to do some fun off roading!

                            How many BHP!

                            Knee scrapping on a CAMEL!

We then proceeded with the camels for a short 4KM ride…. Trust me the 4KM on a camel hurts your rear more than the 40KMs to get there on a bike! We stroked up a good conversation with the camel rider…. And a tip: DO NOT TALK IN ENGLISH! These buggers can understand everything foreign language….he somehow managed to convince us for a longer trip on the camel as far as the old border (Border movie wallah Border) for about 700Rupees for two camels…. Well the amount is worth it considering he will take you to a place which doesn’t have any people around and the view of the start in the moonlit desert is fantabolous!

We had a lot of fun! We even jumped off from a HUGE sanddune! Surprisingly the sand doesn’t stick to your clothes! Its like fine grains of sand that just slither away! Oh! And a word of caution! If you intend to jump off a sand dune, let me assure you its 1000% fun! But getting back on the top is scary and tiring!

                            Border movie wallah Border:

                            UFOs attacking us....

                            Anoops Princess

Whose beard is more sexy, Anoops Princess or mine

Anoops Princess trying to flirt with me
She sure has pretty eye lashes
