above is the route map (courtesy: google maps) of the road you will more or less end up taking. The sumamry of the road is as follows:
point A is any random point on NH8 highway
point B is ghodbunder road... you take a left here for thane
point C is suraj water park
point D is where you will join the eastern express highway or NH3...take a left here
point E is Mumbai-bhiwandi-nashik-kalyan junction....take a right here
....this is the starting point of NH 222 (or murbad road)
keep going straight from here on
point G is where the city traffic chaos will end and the roads will get empty
point H is murbad....stop here for breakfast/chaai/butt/sutta break if you wish
and finally,
point I is the most sought after location on the malshej ghats...the temple that you see on most of the pics is located somewhere near this point
and since it is your first long ride, make sure you have 1-2 riders riding along.
carry all the papers, wear as many gears as possible, ride safe
cheers

To add to what gautam has said.
There are direction written all over the place, and still if you get confused, ask any of the villagers, they are very helpfull.
Most of the road after hitting the NH222 is straight, also note that from the point you leave godbunder road and take the NH3 (eastern express highway), keep a track on your odo, malshej is 100 kms odd from that place, you wont miss it
All the best, ride safe and ride with proper gear.
