About the Trip –
Whenever Boo and me plan a trip we try to make it a vacation + Touring trip most mandate water needs to be there
. This time thought of something different than beach and followed the river Godavari River starting at Bhadrachalam and followed till the end at Yanam where it meets the Sea. So now you guys understand the reason for the name of this thread
.
The plan was to start from Hyderabad by road to Bhadrachalam and reach Papikondalu Island (camping site) by boat and next day evening start for Yanam, spend a day at Yanam and the following day back to Hyderabad. Lot unexpected twists and surpises in the plan will share them in the log.
Have been planning this trip from almost a month, as this was my first trip after Marriage, managing leaves became little difficult in the last minute due to my sub ordinate’s last minute emergency
but thanks to my manager it went smooth. Did all the possible research on Yanam
, got the details of the Govt Guest house and believe me the people who manage the guest House, Venkat Rao and Eswar Rao were very helpful in arranging the things for us.
About the Route –
The route that we finalized on was something which had nothing to do with crunching Kms, rather we wanted to take a new route which was through rural and covering the wildlife sanctuaries and a new route which hardly anyone in our group knew. Though there was shorter route available.
Day one Log –
The Early Morning Run –
Called up Raghu at 2200Hrs on Thursday 11th, to confirm about starting at 0300Hrs on Friday. He was set too but dint get good sleep as he had to stay back late night in the office to ready the IT papers. Finally at 0330Hrs Friday I get a call from Raghu saying that he is waiting at JNTU, bid a bye to Vini and my pet Scooby and joined him in 10 minutes. It was still chilling cold little shifting of luggage done in next 5 minutes and we were all set and started by 0345Hrs. Doing 70+ on city roads at that ghostly hour in the morning was piece of cake in no time we crossed Uppal last part of the city.
The target was to reach Bhadrachalam by 1100Hrs and take the boat from there to Papikondalu Island resort. So we were left with 4 hours and 225 Kms to be done considering the fact that the road from Warangal was all through forests and small villages so more narrow highway not a smooth ride. The next stop was at Pakhal lake after crossing Narsampet couple of pics and some water and all set again from here on we were past across all villages from here on it was only forest and once in a while we used to come across a small group of huts (called as Tanda or Gudem – habitat of Tribal’s). It was a very narrow highway hardly a bus or a Lorry can manage with not even a cycle to accommodate next to it. After hours of riding when we were 80Kms away from Bhadrachalam we stopped at a one such Tanda they were drying the mirchi took few pics tried calling up the Boat guy again but no luck it was switched off, by now me and Raghu we worried. Never expected about the surprise that awaited us.
Reached Bhadrachalam well in Time first sight of river Godavari, tried calling up the guy now I was so frustrated that one time he would have picked up the phone I would killed him over the phone but lucky fellow he was, and unfortunate we were it was still switched off. Cursing him we went ahead filled our tanks and checked with other transport people all had to say that all the boats to Papikondalu leave at 0600Hrs in the morning. Now that we couldn’t make it to Island and by now it was 1130Hrs we were hungry so decided for breakfast. Raghu and me decided “papikondalu gai tel lene” lets go to Yanam and have fun. So called up Eswar Rao at Yanam asking him for the chances of checking in today and he was more than happy to confirm that we can come down today. So we started from Bhadrachalam towards Mothugudem (first break) the first 8 kms were bone jerking as the road was under repairs. All through the way it was NH221 and a very narrow road. and hardly any vehicles to be found. Passing through small Tanda’s here and there and the only other people to be found were heavily armed police as it was agency areas of the state. All through the road it was very scenic and dense.
