Hyderabad to Karimnagar, Warangal and back

    Date: 7th February 2010

The Transporter has to deliver a package to Warangal. Read on to know about his journey...

It was a lazy Sunday afternoon. I was relaxing at home and I got a call from my friend. He wanted to ride out somewhere. I happily obliged, got ready and went to his house. Initially I thought of riding to Medak with him, but he said that he had to return back early as he had to start for Warangal in the evening. But the problem was that the highway to Warangal was closed due to the agitations.

I said him that I’ll drop him to Warangal. So I changed the initial plan of Medak to Warangal. Since the highway was closed, we decided to take the karimnagar route. It was 3 pm by the time we started. Filled some petrol and took the SH 1. There was not much traffic on the highway, so I could easily maintain an average speed of 80 -85 km/h. We passed through Shamirpet Lake on the way. I didn’t stop by, as I had already visited it several times. The highway remained the same throughout, with little or no traffic around. There are a few curves at the starting and in the middle of the course, which are good for cornering. After riding for about 2 hours, we reached Karimnagar.

Manair dam was our stop at Karimnagar. We reached there at the right time to catch the sunset. We took lots and lots of photos as the view was very beautiful at that time. After some time we were feeling bored, so we decided to play with the sun. My friend tried to lift the sun with his hand. I was feeling hungry so I tried grabbing it in my hand and swallowing it. After taking photos to our hearts content, we resumed our journey towards Warangal.

It was around 6:30 pm by the time we started from there. Warangal was another 80 km from there. This stretch was also less crowded and we could maintain good speeds. As soon as we were about to reach Warangal, there was a huge traffic jam. We saw thousands of people walking on the road on both sides. We wondered as to what it was for. As we moved further, we came to know that they had come to Kakatiya University to support the T-cause.

The roads were completely jammed with cars, busses, lorries and bikes. The number of people moving in both the directions was endless. All the vehicles were moving at snail’s pace. There were a lot of RAF, CRPF and Police personnel on both sides of the road to control the mob. I squeezed my bike through every little gap on the road and sometimes went off-road to get out of that rush. We reached Warangal at 8 pm. I dropped him at NIT, washed my face at his room, as it was full of polluted dust and bugs.

I started off for Hyderabad immediately as I was getting late. Thankfully the Warangal highway was open, so I took it. There was moderate traffic on this stretch. The vehicles coming from the opposite side were driving at high beam and were hindering my visibility. Luckily, I found a Force Trax Toofan going towards Hyderabad. I started following it since it would act as a shield for my eyes from the head lights of the oncoming vehicles. It was doing about 90 km/h and I had to maintain the same pace to keep up with it. There was some road widening work going on the highway, which created a traffic jam. I zipped through the vehicles stuck in the jam and zoomed off and reached Hyderabad in about 2 hours. It was 10:30 pm by the time I reached my house.

…. and the Transporter had successfully delivered the package to Warangal.
