    2nd June Srinagar sightseeing

    3rd June Jammu

Only two query i have is the gati people are saying that i would be needing to pay the octroi when returning thats when the bike is transfered from Jammu to Mumbai.
My bike is registered in Mumbai its MH03 (Wadala RTO)

Will the road be opened before May 24th the day when i hit the Manali leh Highway??

Assuming you will be collecting the bike from the GATI godown at Mandi.

Yes. That's correct. There are two solutions to this problem.
      1. When you would have bought the bike, you would have paid octroi and you would have got a receipt for it/it would be mentioned in the bill that you would have got from the dealer at the time of purchase. Attach a copy of that along with the xerox documents you will give to gati people while booking the bike back.
      OR
      2. Pay the octroi when collecting the bike and then get it refunded (this is what was told to me when I was asked to pay octroi each time I got the bike back to Pune from Ladakh trip) by going to the octroi post and show them the bike purchase bill and the recently paid octroi receipt. Since my bike valuation was low, the octroi was some hundred odd bucks, so I didn't want to waste time and fuel going to the octroi post and claim refund.

They should be open by then but since it will be at the time when roads might have just open, some unexpected snow fall might close them temporarily at some place. This is what happened last year, though a bit earlier than 24th May.

            plan looks neat

may 29th - I am presuming you are taking the road from nubra valley to pangong tso via wari la and by passing khardung la and leh.I do not think there is any other route. Try to spend time in pangong tso (another day if possible and atempt M'la as well.

Thing about any road transport company- they are always LATE.try to send the bike much before to ensure that the bike is there when you arrive at mandi

Yea i am gonna take the wari la road even i was thinking of doing marsmik la but i am little sceptical whether my bike would do it its not about the offroading but of the altitude my last option would be to remove the air filter if needed need to think seriously on this

              What do u guys think??

                @Vivek100cc: Which bike brother?

I have a few inputs. First, if you are coming back by train from Jammu, why don't you get your bike with you in train as luggage? It will be lot cheaper than Gati, and lot safer, as you will get the bike as soon as you get down from train.

The transport of bike by cargo company in Mumbai will attract some octroi trouble, but getting it as luggage in train will be relatively hessle free. While going also, why are you breaking the journey at Mandi? I would recommend to ask Gati to send the bike all the way to Shimla, or just parcel it to CHandigadh and ride to Manali (one day ride). That way it will be cheaper and safer.

In my case, I am starting journey from Srinagar, where no railway parcel can be delivered, and hence I have to rely on them. But while coming back, I am alighting the train at Kalka and getting my bike as luggage with me. As yours is a train journey both ways, I'd recommend you to stick with Indian railways for lesser rates as well as comfort.

I would suggest the following itinerary:

21st May I starting from Mumbai through train to Kalka
                2925 PASCHIM EXPRESS BDTS 11.35

22nd May reach Kalka at 16.40 and get the bike from train, stay in Kalka

                23rd May head towards Manali

24th May Manali to Keylong or Darcha

                25th May Keylong/Darcha to Sarchu/Pang

                26th May Sarchu/Pang to Leh

                27th May Leh sightseeing

28th May Leh to Khardungla and Nubra valley

29th May Khardungla to Pangong tso Direct route without coming to Leh

                30th June Leh

                31st June Kargil

                1st June Srinagar

                2nd June Srinagar sightseeing

                3rd June Jammu

4th June catch a train to Mumbai and load the bike in luggage van
                2472 SWARAJ EXPRESS 11.15

5th June Arrive in Mumbai at 18.05 and get the bike from van and ride home!

This way you are saving a lot of hassles, a good amount of money and one full day! You can use it for sightseeing Manali.
