  • [Photo Feature]: bad, good, kodachadiri, roads Kodachadiri! Good roads - bad roads- NO roads!

    Well.. the plan was simple!

    HEAD ON TO KODACHADIRI!

Total Kms covered to and fro from Bangalore : 910 kms.

    Who all : John- P220FI, Niranjan- P220FI, Avin- P180UI

Kodachadiri : Off roading heaven! and all this off roading right to the top of one the mountains with a view that makes you want to do this again and again and again and again...

Roads till Kodachadiri : Mostly good. Last 20-30 kms bumpy and kinda prepares you for whats ahead

    Route taken : MAP

    Teaser(s):

    Log part 1:

It had been 3 days after the much awaited Calicut ride and there was some part of me that wanted more. Coincidentally a post in the random discussion thread mentioned of a ride to Kodachadiri. Yes! that was it !exactly what the doctor ordered. Something to get rid of that "feeling" and and i pretty much decided that this needed to be done at any cost. A little skeptical whether my bike could do it. But hey.. I didnt care! .

D day and all nuts and bolts on my UI180 tightened i head on to johns place and get drenched in the rain even before it began all thanks to a beautifully planned bottle neck called Silkboard junction! Over at john's , Praful and Deejay were there catching up on the latest and waiting for the waterworks to subside. Praful confidently told that the rain wont last long ! and i knew for sure we are in for a long wet spell! Rain delayed our start from a early 7:30 pm to a late 9:15PM, and that, after we decided come what may rain or no rain Kodachadiri here we come! But Now we had a small suspense building up! Niranjan the third hero our ride was not answering his phone and that had us confused about his confirmation for the ride. The suspense was all over while John and I were tanking up . Ninja had over slept .

Phew. with that sorted out we head out towards the meeting point, or at least we thought. Once on NICE road the rains got pretty heavy ,but the growls and grunts from our stomachs were louder than thunder! So we stopped at a Dhaba and informed Ninja, incidentally he was also having dinner! Soon we caught up with him and Tumkur was decided as the next stop. We arrived at Xeno's place wet ,dripping and desperate for a change of clothes! Xeno's place... full floor carpeting and ample space space to dry off everything.. and i mean EVERYTHING!
All set and done we crash for the night.

    more from this later..

Hey I heard the road to top of the hill, Kodachadri is cut and jeeps are not able to approach.

      Can two wheelers approach??

      Is that correct??
Please use all possible safety measures while riding and remember others also riding on the same road...

yeah the entrance is dug up after the first 400 meters , so that jeeps cant go. But there is a small small path towards the right of it where bikes can go

apparently its closed due to some court case.

              here we go

              posting on behalf of john.

After may 1 and 2 I don't have holiday till September. So Trip not gonna happen till next 3 months. So decided to make use of this two days. I thought I am gonna make Munnar solo ride. Discussed with Niranjan. He also game for any ride and suggested Kodachadri. I been to kodachadri years back. Kodachadri invites me a lot to re-visit. So destination fixed. 11th Hour Avin gave green signal.

Called up to Mr. Rajendra (09449145540) for booking hotel. Unfortunately no rooms are available. We can get tent over there for Rs. 500/- each day. 4 ppl can stay together in one. Niranjan told he is having tent so no worries.

We started in heavy rain. Saw two accidents on Nice road on our way. Before we met Ninja we finished our dinner.

Me and Avin waiting for dinner

We have enough time. So no early morning wake up and ride. We woke up around 7 AM and left Xeno's place. Breakfast break in Tumkur

                posting on behalf of Nirajan:

We had an early morning breakfast with Xeno at Tumkur. The hotel was called Ravi Darshan, which is right next to Pavithra. I must say, this hotel is pretty good too! The food here was Y-U-M-My Of course that meant some serious uploading!

                • ME : Idli-Vada + Masala Dosa
                • Xeno : Idli + Masala Dosa
                • Avin : 2 x Idli Vada
                • John : 1 MD

John was the first to finish bf and he moved outside to put the D60 to use. We noticed some "fans" checking out our loaded bikes Soon, we pushed off from the hotel, and Xeno escorted us till his college, where we bid good-byes for the day and headed towards Shimoga.

En route, I recognized the lake from the Run-in Ride and confirmed it with John. However, we were too full of energy to have a break just yet, so kept riding till we came across another lake after Tiptur. We decided to stop for a photoshoot there.

We resumed riding after the shoot.

Instead of heading directly to Shimgoa, we took a detour to a dam, where we rid our bikes from all the grime of last night's ride in the rains.

Next stop was at Shimoga, where we filled our stomachs with Biryani and rehydrated ourselves with lotsa juice, and then hit the road to Kollur. The last ~30km before Nittur (base of Kodachadri) is easily among some of the worst roads I've ridden one. In fact it was easier going up Kodachadri without any roads than riding the pothole-strewn "road".

As I predicted, we arrived at the first peak around 7pm, just in time to catch the sunset. And man what a sunset it was! The most beautiful one I've seen...ever!!

Another major photoshoot happened here till it turned totally dark.
