  • bangalore-delhi route..FYI guys

I am updating the route that I took between Bangalore-Delhi. Seems like I had received a PM but somehow lost it. Hope this helps:

Started from Bangalore at around 4:45 PM. Took the NICE road. NH4 goes straight to PUNE. There is a right turn from TUMKUR so make sure you take that. It goes towards NH4 (PUNE). The road seems to have somewhat improved between CHITRADURGA-HAVERI. Except for one instance where my baby was made to do a long jump, I don't remember many potholes. Yes there were a lot many diversions. That's the norm these days, I guess. Reached PUNE at 5 AM. Once the outskirts of PUNE is reached, there is a left that one has to take for MUMBAI if the PUNERI city needs to be bypassed. Take that left and go straight. After around 30 odd kms, you will find a left going for MUMBAI. DONT TAKE THAT...ITS THE EXPRESSWAY and meant only for 4 wheelers. . Go straight and the road turns left for MUMBAI. I guess thats the DEHU road junction (don't remember clearly).

Its a narrow lane somewhat but the road condition is OK. Keep on going straight and you will reach LONAVLA. The road will take you through the city and onto the EXPRESSWAY. But thats only for 10 minutes I guess. Once you're on the expressway, there is a left hand exit for KHOPOLI. Take that left because 2 wheelers aren't allowed to take THE EXPRESSWAY AGAIN!.
Ride for around 1/2 an hour and you will reach the PANVEL JUNCTION. These junctions are pretty confusing so I stress on the fact that its 100 times better to ask people about the road leading to AHMEDABAD. There are 5-6 turns that you have to take, so, much better asking. At the end you will reach the THANE bypass I think! Keep on asking people about the road leading to AHMEDABAD and they will guide you to a PHATA. Once you reach that PHATA take the right turn, its a bypass to the AHMEDABAD highway. The road condition is good but totally cutoff from human habitation. It can get very lonely in that stretch so better that one crosses that stretch during daytime. Once 30 kms are covered, you will hit the AHMEDABAD highway headon. Take the right. There are trucks, trucks n trucks plying on that road so you shouldn't have much problem identifying it. These roads go straight through VAPI, BYPASSING SURAT, BYPASSING VADODARA. BUT, thats where the RIPPER has to take a diversion because, THE EXPRESSWAY between VADODARA and AHMEDABAD is not meant for 2 wheelers, AGAIN! So you end up taking the left turn for AHMEDABAD (NH 8 i think)! It was so hot that my brows were sweating gallons! Keep going for another 1 hour straight to reach AHMEDABAD. Once there ask someone for the highway leading to DELHI via HIMMATNAGAR, UDAIPUR.

The road from AHMEDABAD is butter smooth plus the scenery is amazing. Keep going straight AGAIN! and you will cross HIMMATNAGAR, SHAMLAJI etc. After some time you will hit the RAJASTHAN border. Its heaven man! just too beautiful. Go straight, amazing roads and amazing scenery. Once, you reach UDAIPUR, ask for NH76 leading to CHITTAURGARH. Its a right turn at a busy market place. That's when the roads can't get better and heat just keeps rising. It's so hot that people refuse to come out of the shade. I was the only one riding like an ass! and that too wit that DSG jacket and gloves. Keep going straight-straight and straight. Just remember
one has to take a left turn for NH79 before CHITTAURGARH. Its a HUGE junction with flyovers going here and there. NH79 will go BHILWARA, BIJAINAGAR and will end at KISHANGARH. NH8 continues from KISHANGARH to DELHI with just JAIPUR in between, and that too will be bypassed. The JAIPUR-DELHI roads are in a mess. They are converting it into a 6 LANE stuff and you will not find anything but dug up roads and traffic jams. It's like a horror story. That's the perfect anti climax. The excitement of reaching delhi is so much but the roads are so bad that you feel like crying. Keep n going straight to hit GURGAON EXPRESSWAY. EVEN though 2 wheelers aren't allowed on it, but I could see people happily plying on their 2 wheelers on it . GO STRAIGHT AND YOU WILL HIT DHAULA KUAN.

    POINTS TO REMEMBER:

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE NEW SET OF TYRES. THE ROADS ARE SOO HOT THAT IF THE TYRES AREN'T IN PERFECT CONDITION YOU ARE GONNA SUFFER BAD. I DID . TUBELESS TYRES ARE GOOD BUT A SINGLE PUNCTURE CAN MAKE YOU PAY. THE STICKY SOLUTION WOULD ALWAYS COME out COS THE ROADS WERE SO HOT.

WEAR AS LIGHT AS POSSIBLE. JUST MAKE SURE TO WEAR PROPER GEAR (GLOVES AND JACKET A MUST) COS WITHOUT SAFETY THERE AIN'T MUCH FUN IN RIDING A BIKE. WINDS AT HIGH SPEEDS CAN MAKE YOU SWAY LIKE A LEAF N THE HEAT CAN BURN YOUR BARE HANDS. I HADN'T WORE UNDIES COS I KNEW I WOULD BE DOING A LAP DANCE EVERY 2-3 MINUTES COS OF THE SWEAT IF NOT PAIN IN THE BUTT.

TUBELESS TYRE PUNCTURE KIT. SMALL ITSY BITSY PARTS. ASK YOUR MECHANIC, HE'LL BE THE BEST PERSON TO GUIDE YOU.

IT TOOK ME 52 HOURS (12 HOURS SLEEP AT AHMEDABAD INCLUDED.)

LAST BUT NOT THE LEAST. TRUST YOUR BIKE.

AND YEAH! I HAVE TO MENTION. R15 IS THE BEST BIKE I HAVE COME ACROSS. NOT IN ANY WAY DEGRADING ANY OTHER BIKE. BUT MY BABY BEHAVED LIKE AN ANGEL.

Nice piece of info, Thanks for sharing.
          And kudos for the ride

          EDIT:

This was the route taken by you covering some 2400+ kilometers. A wiser route actually. I planned the same for my brother who was suppose to do Delhi-Bangy on his Avenger.

exactly..I took this route from maps.google.com. Didn't take any other route cos haven't heard much about other routes. Has your brother completed the ride, cos if he has not then I sure would like to meet him when he lands in Bangy.

There ain't much I missed in the details but a couple of points:

Music player: A must if you wanna enjoy the ride. Make sure it has all the peppy numbers plus soothing ones too.

Try to maintain a constant speed. Somewhr around the 90kmph mark is pretty good. Ain't much load on the bike when the gears aren't shifted.

Thanks a lot for your comments!

              Thanks bro.

Can you tell me how many were you when you went for this trip? Is it good to go on this trip alone, actually i am also planning for the same with my R15 but not getting any partner .
But still i have enough enthusiasm to go for this ride. Need your suggestions

I've heard so much about this stretch that it makes me wanna go right away. Sadly its not that easy with so many commitments to fulfill. But where are the pics man?

I'm wondering how the roads would be along this route:

It's shorter that the delhi-mumbai-bangalore route by about 500kms, if the roads on the direct route are better/as good as that of the delhi-mumbai-bangalore route, it'll be certainly a lot faster route to get to bangalore.

                      What do you guys think?

I've got 2 routes in mind:

                          1. Straight route, delhi-nagpur-bangy
                          2. GQ route, delhi-mumbai-bangy

problem with route 1 is there are some bad patches in between

problem with route 2 is it's 300kms longer than 1, also had Expressways in between, how would I know which stretch is an expressway? What happens if I go on the expressway and the guys in khakhi catch me?

good info dids. Actually two wheelers are allowed on delhi-gurgaon expressway, but they have to ply on dedicated bike lane which many doesn't. There is no toll for bikes/two wheelers.
