      in a nutshell

thanks aryan for the speedy approval ! ..
Delhi- rampur ----day 1 ride time 18hrs
rampur- kaza ----day 2 ride time 13 hrs
kaza- manali ----day 3 ride time 7 hrs
      manali-delhi ----day 4 ride time 16 hrs

couldnt click much pictures between manali and delhi return since i've travelled this n times and my butt had literally taken the pain of being a saddlesore(between kaza and manali )

They say it "Land of the Lamas" and it is definitely a visit worth ... next time will surely take lots of time "maybe a month" and trek to smaller villages in the interior .... places like kibber and kye monastry and pin valley national park and many more

@hellrider: You didn't visit the Pin Valley/ Rupa Valley, Kye monastery, Kibber and the likes!? Damn! It was then, surely an ironbutt.

When I rode to Spiti a couple of months back or so, we were two riders. We completed Delhi - Spiti - Delhi in about 6 days. You can read more about my ride in the below link:

          Spiti: Where Gods Reside.

P.S: Now, eagerly waiting for the pictures and the text.

A marathon run in its truest sense young man!

Rampur - Kaza and Kaza - Manali would have really brought out the literal sense of the word 'saddlesore'. Though as @kurtrules says...Kaza - Manali in 7 hrs is almost rally spec riding. Goes a lot to say how much the improvement of the state of the roads, esp between Kaza and Losar, has made a difference. During my first ride to Kaza in '2000, the entire Losar - Kaza stretch was unpaved except for some 3 odd kms before Kaza after Rangrik. So it was right after Gramphoo on the Rohtang side. Took me 11 hrs then.

Now I never do Manali - Kaza in one go. I stay either at Chota Dara, Batal or Losar. This stretch is the best of the entire route in terms of ruggedness and isolation and I just don't fancy doing the 'teevra mudrika' ride through it. Take more time out next time and do justice to this rare remote high-altitude desert.

                        Looking forward to those pictures...

                          Day 1 Delhi - Rampur

Sorry guys because the trip log is going to be short as I have loads of work in office.

Planning for this trip was merely one day long. Planned finally that if everything went up and fine on Thursday then will leave by evening for this trip. I was planing to take a friend along as pillion but he got sick and I planned to leave all by myself. Left from my home at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
As i left there was a great thunderstorm and hell lot of rain followed by 2 hour long drizzle and I was left stranded merely 5 kms from home waiting for the rains to subside.

At 12:00 a.m. on Friday I took off from that place and hit the NH 1 in half an hour time but to my disgust it was lined up with trucks fuming obnoxious gases into my throat already fumed with so much tobacco. never mind I kept moving on and soon dry patches of road started to appear. An hour later I reached murthal and ate paranthas with white butter ** delicious** which kept me occupied for another hour.
reached Now it was 1:30 a.m. and i was ready to roll out my beast on the dry tarmac left all alone in the wilderness of the night and started ripping the bike at 100+ just to my agony that a few cars could catch with me driving at speeds over what i had been going at... nevermind... i kept cruising.
then came a few toll taxes .....not for me though .. haha - bikism rocks.

After the stillness of the night with the whistling notes from the ministry of sound i kept singing to the tunes of Kayne west and lady GaGa and in no matter of time i crossed kurukshetra and ambala when i realised that i need to take the bypass from NH into panchkula and kalka towards Shimla.
As I stood still with the beast throbbing at 6-7 rpms I took the pass towards dera bassi through to zirakpur and reached panchkula. After crossing panchkula the air was sweeter then what i had tasted till now. Panchkula to kalka was a quick run getting used to winding curves that the Solan region had to offer.

In no time I found myself entering into taradevi and furthermore into Shimla by 9:00 a.m.
I entered into the Main bus terminal at shimla and grabbed a copy of HP tourist map for 30 Rs. further i moved into the market and got minor work done on the bike
                          Chain tight
                          Oil change
(thought of buying a spare tube and puncture kit but ....the mechanic didnt have a 120 tube for my 140/80/18 rear tyre) so i dropped the idea of a spare tube leaving the punchture in gods hand if it was so to come in the coming route ahead. And charged my phone and mp3 player in the meantime at the garage. He had put ElF engine oil for 230 bucks and charged a total of 250 rs.

Man the girls in Shimla are gorgeous and i just could'nt stop checking them out. So after enough of sightseeing i moved towards Kufri which was some 40 kms from Shimla.
On my way to kufri met with some rainfall/drizzle and kept moving forward. Then i reaches to Theog and had my lunch there(meat- chawal - chai - 2 peg royal stag). After this my tummy started resonating at the same frequency as my mind was in and i left Theog after clicking a few pictures here and there.
It just kept getting more and more scenic.

I found the locals really nice and they would come up to me and ask if everything was all right.
on my way to Rampur which was supposedly going to be my stay for the night I saw a beautifully designed Hocked field in the middle of nowhere... at Shilaroo courtesy the Sports Authority of India.
It was absolutely amazing to find something like this at such high altitude.

Captured the beauty in my Nokia Expressmusic 3.2 Mp camera.
I understood the importance of capturing the beauty of places like these and many more to come were going to be totally unjustified unless I had a reasonably good DSLR or any other professional camera.
Now m planning to buy a Canon or Nikon Coolpix P90.... please guide me guys ... budget would be somewhere around 20-22k.
Narkanda was really beautiful and I puffed the forbidden at the shades of the pines and kept drowing myself in the serenity.
The hills had every shade of green that could be possibly offered by any graphical editor on the change color section/ green .
From Narkanda i moved towards Bithal. After a few patchy roads I cotinued on NH22. After some time i located the Satluj flowing along the route and by
evening 6:00 I touched into Rampur and checked in a Hotel for 100bucks a night with Bar downstairs. The hotel was on the main road itself next to some lawyers only parking and I parked my bike there for the night. went into the room and smoked a Joint, after which I consulted a friend of mine if i should continue or rest but he said to take a stop as the road was not going to be good from there onwards courtesy Jaypee group and the Karcham Dam project as he had seen the making of the Dam few months back on this route .
So in the evening i took a small stroll and watched the Flow of Sutluj in complete awe. Came back had a Few shots of Royal Stag downstairs for 20 bucks a peg/medium and chicken tandoori with roti and retired forthe night.

                          Route covered

Its a really quite a valuable input and i would definitely take out time during my next visit.
It was quite a fast run as i wanted to get familiar to the route and i am planning to take my friends along next time and take out ample time for visiting all the key places.
The 7 hr run was because I was scared that i might not find shelter
between losar and Rohtang top since it was my first time and people told me that these shelters at chota dhara and gramphoo close early so I ran through this place like a rally driver but after crossing rohtang top i just went down at freefall till the BSF camp.
No matter what but i am gonna stay at chota dhara ..
this time of the year there was absolutely no ice at kunzum and 10% of what you could actally see at rohtang during summer season. quite dissappointing though.

Quite rightly put there sir. I went there in June and the Kaza-Losar stretch is all paved except for a few hiccups here and there. An hour's drive from Kaza would get you to Losar these days But then again, the Kunzum gramphoo stretch is just the same way you left it in 2000.

Nonetheless kaza-manali in 7 hours is no less than spectacular. I say so, as I can relate quite well! Kaza-chandigarh took me like 21 hours out of which 14 were spent on the kaza-manali strech albeit the rain storm and snow ...
