What time of the year are you guys planning this? Because this time of the year you will get about 10 hours of daylight and 14 hours of darkness. Not a very good thing. Also you will get atleast 3 hours of thick fog. Again something which will slow you down considerably. I would suggest do a dry run now and attempt the saddlesore in march-april. It will be too risky now and at the same time very high chances of failure.

And why do you need 9000 bucks for doing 1600 kms??? You will need not more than 4 grand.

Another route you can look up. Kanpur to Jhansi and Shivpuri and then into Rajasthan. But this is only if the Kanpur-Jhansi route has been completed. If you can find that out, then this would also be an ideal route

    Cheers

Did Delhi - Kolkata ( NH2 appx 1446 kms) in JAN 2011 for RM in Kolkatta...While going from delhi .. i took it easy and completed my ride in three days ...

started delhi at 0400 hrs and cross agra by 0630...after agra there is no hassel and the highway is superb...took my first halt at Kanpur....second halt at Saasaram and third night in Kolkata..

The highway is much better then any other highway i have travelled in India except express highway...this highway NH2 is also a part of golden quardilateral and one of the finest highways....but on the other a Boring highway and it can make you almost fall asleep on long boring and inahbited streches....alllahabad bypass ( 70kms) is one of them....

Do carry water bottles with you as at times you may feel very thirsty and no water around.. Be ware of truckers in UP before agra and in WB specially. The traffic is mad in Durgapur...

Rest its a very very good highway without a single bump except a small strech of hardly 100 meters somewhere after durgapur ( doesnt exactly remeber the name but its due to some majar in centre of road, the traffic gets halted and even sometme faces long queues...but bike have no issue to clear it).....

even in month of january when delhi faces blistering cold...once reaching allahabad i felt more humid and hot in day time...obvsly in nights its cold ...

there are no issues on Petrol Pumps as they are there at Lump Sum distances all around but you may face asynchrounus rates all across...Wisely you have to carry your money with you and dont depend on your ATM's as there are rarely any...reason being you are bypassing every major city...yes...you wont entering in any major city as they all have developed super bypasses and flyovers ( as in case of kanpur)....

there are no security issues being bihar or UP but its jsut mad truck drivers at nights and no other source of lights other then headlights....so its better to avoid riding in night as they blast on your Visor and you are impossible to see anything....rest there are literally no issues for security...

the main traffic you will be facing will be in durgapur and bhillai coz the NH runs on edge of city and being industrial zone , major truck halts are there...

I Sincerely wish you luck...just go grab your speed...

While returning from Kolkata i did NH2 in two days only....Kolkatta - sasaram- delhi.....literally i enjoyed it and wasnt racing or speeing my bike...but being alone was the major factor....like i left sasaram at 0830 in morning for delhi and reached delhi by 2300 hrs....covering appx 900 kms with efficient pits stops for food , water and cigg. NO RUSH...

and i did it on a RE....so you can rely on my report....

ROLL ON MATE....you will have amazing trip...

      ALL THE BEST

This is the other route I was talking about - NH 24B to Kanpur Rd - Google Maps

You can leave early morning from Lucknow and go to Jhansi via Kanpur. The road is mostly done, except a small stretch which goes through Orai. After you reach Jhansi the roads are awesome again right till Kota. Kota-Chittoragarh-Kishangarh-Jaipur is a section which you will have to check out with someone from Rajasthan. After Jaipur the roads are awesome all the way back to Lucknow. And it will be much safer as well
Only thing you must ensure is that Kanpur-Shivpuri sector is done in daylight.

Monk Sirjee...NH 76 is very very sexy...did this in Jan 2011 but the majot problme in thi route is hardly two or three petrol pumps....In this route the mess starts at chittor...while coming on this route there is no bypass so u must be jammed....after clearing chhitorgarh u can zap on until kishangarh...here you meet the ehavy traffic but still can maintain a 90-100-120kmph.....after that i.e. jaipur - agra...its in compelte mess and the road have major crators....

Sincerly advice you to not take up this route....

Since you have crossed the most important stretch on this area, i.e., the Sasaram area, is it safe to cross that area at night?

Varanasi Allahabad Road one side is not good, damaged and with Local heavy Traffic.... Trucks while ovr taking another truck do waste lots of precious time ... In durgapur also there is heavy traffic.. And read almost in every blog and post regarding NH2 some time vehicles come from wrong side of the road.. Allahabad bypass to Kanpur road is good but very bumpy.

How about a writeup on the details of your ride? With specifics on the condition of the route, your timings, availability of ATMs, et al.
