Sunny, when in Munnar, do take the road to Topstation via Mattupetty. Good tarmac and views! The Lockhart area en route to Suryanelli is another fave place.
If you have the time, do visit Marayur, Kanthaloor and try to get a homestay there.

        Day 1- Edappally-Aluva-Perumbavoor-Kothamangalam-Neriamangalam-Adimali-Munnar (Around 125 Kms)
From Cochin, till 15 kms before Munnar, Roads re pretty good with a commentable banking..... 15 Kms was bad.. Might have bettered too....

        Day 2- Munnar-Marayur-Chiinar-Udumalpettai-PollachiCoimbatore-Mettupalayam-Coonoor-OOtty...

Munnar-Marayur-Chinnar- Amaravathy (Just before Udumalpetta) - Average roads without patches.... (Thre re Some other roads with patches which can gve real pleasure too)... Thre re many places you can have real fun with for sure.... It includes off and on roads.... Please mention what type of ride or road you expect....
        Amaravathy to Mettupalayam- good roads....
Mettupalayam-Ooty- No recent updates. But it is not bad, I think..

The road and condition of the roads for the rest 2 days will be updated soon...

Would you please to let us know when this gonna happen?
started riding a motorized cycle on a chetak classic.
Learned to accelerate on Y RX100&135.
Learned not to fall down, the patience to heal wound on knee and to ride long on a classic Pulsar 150(still running)&180.....
Planning for more dream destinations on a new ZMR

KOchi - Munnar :Not much aware of the conditions off late

          Munnar-Ooty: Munnar-Marayoor-Chinar-Udmalpet-Pollachi-Coimbatore-Metupalayam-Kotagiri-Ooty

Munnar-Top Station a must do , excellent tarmac. Till The exit of Chinar WLS the route is very scenic. Udmalpet to Metupalayam is maddening traffic , not to worry about the road condition but beware of the road users. From Metupalayam, not adviceable to take coonoor route since it will be infested with tourist traffic, KOtagiri route is scenic and less prone to traffic. From Ooty take Kalhatty ghats (kalhatty falls) rather than Gudalur Route. 36 hair pins waits alongway.

Ooty -Mysore-Coorg: Adviceable instead of Ooty -HD KOte-Coorg
Once in Coorg, Tibetien Monastery, Mandalpatti, (if you are getting an off roader can suggest a bindass route to mandalpatti)

Coorg-Kochi: Roads are in Bad shape till you enter Kerala and reach Kalpetta. Ghat roads from wayanad were getting a massive face lift last month, might be completed by now, There on till Chalakudy its goood roads all the way "but" Mad road users. Chalakudy to Kochi , have no idea about the present conditions

            KOCHI-MUNNAR
Kochi Munnar route is in excellent condition and it won't be a problem for you reaching munnar from cochin in 2 to 3 hours. This is the shortest route to munnar .

Another option is Cochin-Pala-Kanjirappalli-Peerumedu-Thekkady-Munnar. This a very long route but from kanjirappaly to Munnar will be all higrange .
Not sure about the ooty route though.

Do give me a call if you have any problem here in cochin.I reside in Alwaye.Wll sent you my mobile number.

Praveen, do we really need to go via Edapally & Aluva?

                Here's what I thought...

                Kochi-Tripunithura-Thiruvamkulam-Puthencruz-Kolencheri-Muvattupuzha-Kothamangalam-Neriamangalam-Adimali-Munnar

Kochi to Muvattupuzha - 42 Kms (can be done in 50 minutes even on a mere Rx)
Muvattupuzha - Munnar - 91 Kms (can be done in less than 3 hours)

Wouldn't the Aluva route be of additional 10-15 Kms more?

Edit - Just had a thought; if its via flight, then the route will be more as you said...

The term Cochin Makes a lot of confusion. Even if it is not like chennai, The little queen is growing per second. So If they mean starting from exact cochin, your suggestion is worth. If it's from the other end, My suggestion will go perfect. Thats why I pointed the starting point as Edappally rather than Cochin....

@Sunny- 18th or earlier.. Heard that you re already here...

                        Hi Sunny,

For reaching Ooty from Munnar you can also try below route which has quite less traffic.

                        Munnar-Udumalaipettai-Palladam-Avinashi-Mettupalayam

From Mettupalayam, you can either take Coonoor route or Kotagiri route as advised by fellow xbhpians.

                        Cheers
