  • Q: Help Me selecting a bike for 23 day leh-spiti trip.

We are to friends planning trip in ladhak and spiti region in aug-sept .I will be reaching delhi in aug first week. i will buying new bike for this trip (no rentals please).Short listed few cbr250, thunderbird 350 or 500(if launched) another ones are classic 500 or 350.
Considering luggage for 23-25 days comfort(important), reliability and maintenance(most important) little bit of FE just to add range to avoid carrying extra fuel all the times what will be the best bet for this trip .
Dont want to karizma because i have driven it for two years before and want to try something new.No duke, pulsar, or Tvs. cost is not an issue for upto 2 lacs. Thanks everyone in advance

Unless you are a TBTS fan, i would suggest CBR250R.

So you want to buy a bike for the trip and sell it off?

Or you want a bike that gives you absolute pleasure for these 23 days and then may turn out to be a nightmare for everything else.

If its the former, then its fine, but if its the latter, the title is VERY misleading.

          couldn't unserstand your post

anyways choose cbr.you don't have too many options.
and the question remains why do i race?
every finishing line is the begining of a new race.

#i don't subscribe to co-incidence,either it is the rider or the other moron on the road

(:)people keeps on saying add spark to life, bajaj got hold of that idea and added an extra spark to bike.

I will be in india for 2.5 months after that i may sell it or may keep it not sure but will not ride it for another year bec i will be in australia. i dont want rented bikes and dont want to go for used one. my trip includes covering spiti, ladhak some other remote places , saach pass etc in aug-sept this year. this trip will be of approx 23-25 days. I think this relates very well to title and clears every thing.suggestions welcome and thanx in advance.

CBR 250R or Duke 200 - Perfect all the way; FI Engines, don't require any damn adjustments on high altitudes. CBR 250R has another edge because of larger service intervals (6000 Kms) at the cost of forward leaning posture, if that's not your riding style.

Bullets will need constant adjustments at high altitudes, Fi is a good choice CBR250R, R15, Duke 200 (great bike but not on your radar) the CBR150R if its available are all bikes you could look at.

CBR 250 is the best bet for you.. Powerful engine, FE, comfort and the most important reliability.. but forward leaning position (considerable though..)
Thunderbird 350 is next in the line.. again Powerful engine, FE, Best in comfort section (no one can beat it..) but reliability !? I doubt..
Rest (classics and all..) are also good but not the best in any section, if you choose between above two…

So, CBR 250, if you want to be mentally relaxed about reliability but physically uncomfortable (as compared to TBTS) or TBTS 350 if you want to enjoy ride comfortably and forget about reliability (as compared to CBR 250)
BTW, new UCE engines are as reliable as that of any other bike. But still, it’s a bullet… You can’t take it for granted…

P.S.: Even if Thunderbird 500 is available till then, I would suggest not to go with it as it will be a newly launched ride. And as the history says, it is better not to trust a RE ride without having its owner reviews.

If you are ok with the issues that "might" be faced with a Bullet, I'll say go with it else CBR it is (from the list of options that you have listed).
If speed is not much of an issue, you can also have a look at Impulse.

With CBR and Impulse, depending on how much luggage you plan to carry, you might want to see if all that can be carried on the bike.

How can he mount luggage for the 23days ride on the KTM? A friend struggled to even mount stuff for a week long ride to Goa from Pune, on KTM. As a result the co-rider on bullet was carrying everything.

                          aargee,

The GC of the CBR250R is 145mm. Vaibhav after his Leh marathon had mentioned 250R's GC will be a problem. Wouldn't CBR150R with GC of 185mm be better for Leh?

You can have a look at hero Impulse .Relaxed up straight riding position, comfort is really good. GC is 245 mm,good for some off-roading. Seat is very long for luggage or pillion
but the bike struggles after 100kmph
If you ride like there's no tomorrow there won't be.
