I will soon be leaving Pondi for Kannur and I need you guy's expert opinion : I'll be travelling on my Unicorn and was wondering which itinerary would be best ; mapmyindia.com says it's via Bangalore, 620km-15h, but I was wondering how scenic the road is & its condition, plus I would like to avoid the pain of going in then out of Bangalore just for a night's sleep. Does it go up and down a lot height-wise, or to put it another way is it tiring?Do you think those 620km can be done in two days, driving safely, or should I spread them out in 3? If so where would you recommend I stay for the nights? Khatujuganapali then Mysore seem to cut the trip in reasonable portions... Any budget places to recommend?
OR...
Actually looking at my road map this morning I instinctly thought of going via Salem - Erode - Coimbatore & then up to Kannur, has anyone here been on those roads? Strangely mapmyindia says it's only 30km more, 648km-15h30, but how reliable, knowing we're talking about India, are those estimates? I'll be spending much more time crossing the Ghats won't I? If I went via Salem I would sleep there the first night then reach Coimbatore, sleep there, then finish the 3rd day up along the coast to Kannur.
How is the road leading to Salem and then the one from Salem to Coimbatore for a bike trip? Is is significantly trickier than the bangalore route?
I'm not a sporty-kind of driver, will be taking it safe&easy speed-wise with the bike...
So what would you guys recommend road-condition & scenery-wise if there really is such little difference between the two itineraries?
Thanks a million in advance for your help!!! I'm from Spain and I haven't (yet!) driven much around India so all advice is more than welcomed!

...The 3rd day was the most scenic drive by an order of magnitude thanks to forests, fiels, paddys, hills but also the most tiring & seemingly never-ending. NH213 as they call it is not a Highway, it is a simple 1x1 road that crosses loads of villages, until Mallapuzam it is loaded with curves & bends and the complimentary buses overtaking you in the middle of a blind bend. I really didn't like the way the Kerali road professionals were driving and still don't. They take unecessary risks compared to the Tamils. Which is strange because I find Keralis much more laid back & peaced out as a people than Tamils. Yet on the road they drive more dangerously, that's my foreigner's opinion for you. So it was a long unnerving drive from Palakkad to Kozhikode, where finally I encountered the first 2x2 portion of the road which was the bypass. Maybe 10 or 15km long, the best and only the day had to offer. Then I guess I took a wrong turn west and found myself in never-ending coconut fields, going through many small places, no signs, no info, I hadn't had lunch except for a few juices & bananas, it was very irritating driving without knowing where nor when you'll be able to catch up with the NH (that isnt really one since it goes through villages)....I caught up eventually with the seaside portion of the NH from Kozhikode to Kannur, passed through Mahe, a binge drinker's paradise, then Thelassi and finally made it to Kannur beach where once again I stopped at the first resort I found, Pranav Beach Resort. Lovely place, very helpful owner and the only sound you hear is the waves crashing on the beach. So good I'm staying for my whole Kannur stay here.
