  • Q: Need help: Kolkata to Faridabad

Am planning a ride from Kolkata to Faridabad by bike during July-August this year. I tried finding any thread with the same start and end points, but couldn't find. Wanted to know which is the best route to follow and what is the best time to leave,to avoid getting pushed by trucks and minimal traffic jams at certain busy locations.

    Got a few questions:

1.I have checked Google Maps. But can I trust every direction given on it? Or is there a new road which reduces the distance at some specific locations?

2.Are two-wheelers allowed on Durgapur Expressway?

3.Also which highways and expressways have No-Entry for 2-wheelers?

4.Is it possible to finish the journey in 24 hrs?

5.Is there any particular location I need to be careful of?

Any kind of insight will be highly appreciated.

    Thanks.

Go thru Blue Volts travel logue during his ninja 250 G-quad trip. Apparently there were some great roads he traversed. However doing it in 24 hrs will be a bit of a daunting task.

I am from faridabad. You can find some jam just before Faridabad, however that depends on what time you entering.

You have chosen one of the best roads to travel on. You really don't need to worry. I would suggest taking a night halt at Varanasi or Allahabad. Travel only in the day.

From Kanpur to Faridabad. The section around Itawa is not at all safe. You won't even find a petrol pump on that section of the highway. Petrol pumps are only in the city as too many highway robbers there. Recently an entire truck with brand new HH bikes was stolen off this section.

So my advice ride in the day. Take a break in Allahabad. Stick to the GQ like a leech. Bikes allowed on all sections of the highway.

And finally be prepared to get your butt soaked at that time of the year

If you have any specific questions regarding Allahabad to Delhi, please feel free to ask.

Did the GQ in Nov 2010. The roads are beautifully awesome. I'm little concerned about the time that you chose as either heat will screw you up or the rail would play as a spoil sport.

But the roads are butter smooth. All 4 lane highway with some stretches extending to 6! No bad stretches and the NH2 is fenced at most of the places.

          check this out

Thanks for the info, but I'm not going to travel through Itawa,I will be going through the KMP Expressway from Kanpur. So is it still a problem if I travel at night? When is traffic the least, yet safe from robbers and bad cops?

I know you won't be riding through Itawa, but you will be riding in its vicinity. Any time in the dark is a big NO.

There is hardly any traffic on the road from Allahabad to Delhi. Atleast not enough traffic to worry a motorcycle. Just a few small towns, which take 10 minutes a piece. And Agra, which is filled with lunatics. That will take about 1/2 hour to cross.

The rest is super cool as long as you stick to the sunlight. Though after Agra its safe to ride at night/dark.

Ok,thanks a lot.Now the thing is,when is the best season to ride? I really want to avoid the rains. And heat (as much as possible) I remember the right side of the handlebar got fully wet while I was riding under the sun at 2PM,sweating profusely inside a jacket as I had to pad up in the heat, for the xBhp GIR meet at Kolaghat.
Can I start the journey from Kolkata at night, around 10pm or should I start at the crack of dawn?
What is the average speed I need to keep,if I want to finish within 24hours (I really want to try to do so)
And if anyone can show the speed-sections and slow-sections of the trip, where I can make up for any time lost.
Any major work-in-progress anywhere or huge craters I need to be careful of?
I will be riding my 2012 Fazer.I have heard the engine works like a charm even after hard riding.Wanna check it out too.
                  Thanks for all the help,guys!

                    Some tips.
Try avoiding riding in night especially on highways which are infamous for bad lighting & traffic habits. Try riding before the break of the dawn (3:30-4:30 AM) & cover as much as possible not by riding fast but without taking much stop. As heat increases you need break for yourself & for the bike too.
You are definitely choosing wrong months to ride. I would say, winters to be best time to ride.

Ok.Then I would start before the break of dawn.I was also thinking about the right time to ride. But I got no other option,as I will be busy during the rest of the year.

Except "Nivedita Setu" on NH2 in Kolkata, the entire stretch that you have mentioned allow bikes.

Very much possible, but with the bike that you have, its not recommended even if you have "enough" practice of long rides.

What is the reason behind it?

I think because of 150cc Engine and the extreme north Indian heat.

You have to keep your avg. speed at 60kmph (70-80kmph Constant) throughout the day and it could be killer for both of you and the bikes engine!

My suggestion is to Start at 12am from Kol,you will touch Jharkhand Border very early morning and break your journey at Allahabad same day evening.

Start very early morning next day from Allahabad and reach Faridabad same day.

I rode to Tochanchi, Jharkhand (on exact NH2) by a overnight journey through the NH2 from Kolkata last Oct'12. It was a smooth ride with no security problem witnessed.Truckers are very co-operative too.

Okay.thanks for the info.even I was thinking whether it would be too hot for the engine to carry on so long distance.will it damage the engine if it runs such a long distance with little breaks in between?
Also, this might be off-topic,but any good place to stay overnight and also to eat, like a nice dhaba with tasty food, since I am a foodie!
