  • Q: Need Touring advice, help me.

    Hi everybody.
After 12-15 days i am planning to go to Kashmir from Delhi (solo), with a possible stay at Ludhiana and a sure stay at Jammu on Duke 200. I have done 350-400 km on Activa, Avenger on different occassions in past without any planning. I have been behind wheels on Jammu-Srinagar-Delhi route a lot of times but everytime it was in 4 wheeler. This will be first on two wheeler from Jammu to Srinagar. I will be staying with my family there for atleast 2 months.
I need help with following things:-
What i need to take with me and what not to?
How to take extra petrol with me? How to and where to store it?
Which is best route from Delhi to Jammu on a two wheeler? I prefer Delhi-Ambala-Ludhiana-Jhalander-Pathankot-Jammu.
    .
Any advice; any word of information will be helpful for me.
    .
I have got good helment; with riding gear from Cramster.
I have Map my India, Google maps in mobiles in case of emergencies, im planning for good map.
I have got seat of Duke cushioned and have done some long rides and seat is now comfortable.
Moderators hope thread will be granted permission at the earliest so that i will be able to get advice and help at the earliest.
    Thanks

        2) Accelerator Cable.
        2A) Spare Fuses.
        3) Tube Less Punclure Kit.
        4) Foot Pump.
        5) Energy Drinks n Water.
        6) All the Bike Documents.
        7) Spare Key Some Where safe incase you loose the actual one.
        8) Tool Kit provided at the time of bike purchase.
        9) Sufficient Cash (Incase there are no cash machines in the route)
        10) Torch Light.
        11) Wipes to clean the Helmet Visor (in case it is flooded with insects in night).

These are al I can remeber.

All these would be fine...also add some tool kit too...basic should be fine.

Bold & Highlighted : Some time back when we were touring, one of our friends had kept the spare keys in his tool box (Royal Enfield) and had lost his original keys ...ha ha ha, we managed to break open the side box and he came back with a juggad fitted side box the entire trip. Why I mentioned this was to keep the spare keys in a place where you can also access it easily. I would always carry 2 spare keys. 1 would be in my jacket, 1 in my bag and the 1 which would be in the bike running in.

              Your question is not clear.

If you are riding just to Jammu then you need not carry all of the above stated items and the route to follow is:

              Delhi - Ambala - Banur - Kharar - Ropar - Balachaur - Hoshiarpur - Dasua - Pathankot -Jammu.

This is the best (in terms of road conditions) and shortest route.

              Jammu to Srinagar would be:

              Jammu - Udhampur - Kud - Patnitop - Batote - Ramban - Banihal - Jawahar tunnel - Qazugund - Awantipora - Srinagar

This is 293 kms and would take you ~8-10 hours if it is your first tryst with mountainous riding
