    Hello,
I am elated to be a member of this community.
I always wanted to do long distance rides alone but my question is ,
1).As i am a first timer so Is it safe to ride alone for long distances say 500 to 600 km? I was thinking of doing a ride from Bokaro ,jharkhand to Dalla near varanasi in U.P .(500Kms approx.)
2).I just got my learners licence so would it be a good idea to go for a long distance ride without permanent licence ? I have all other original papers with me except for the licence .I think if i get caught i might be able to get through by paying that corrupt policeman who catches me offguard?
3).I own a CBZ XTREME and wanted to know that the bike's got enough juice in it to see ne through a long distance trip?

Yes you can, but before that...
      1. Get a permanent license
      2. Catch up with xBhpians in your city & do a several group rides

Be a responsible citizen dude and ride only after you get a permanent license. Riding without a license is illegal and nobody here in xbhp is going to support you on that. Safe riding starts with being responsible, getting your license would be the first step towards that.
        Its not always about speed.

Welcome to xbhp. Nice to see someone from my place here.
              1. Get a permanent DL 1st
              2. Get good riding gear.
Search for a good shop in Chas else order online
              3. CBZ is quite potent. Quoting RG "the only limitation is you!"

But I'd suggest a couple of endurance rides.
              1. Do a Bokaro Ranchi round trip.
              2. Do a Bokaro Tata round trip.
              See where you stand.

              Then proceed to Banaras.
              Ride safe.

Luv, I'd definitely join you if I was in Bokaro, but I currently stay in Bangalore.
And what do you mean by "body shops"? (bold part above)

Moreover, doing a 100 km Bokaro-Ramgarh in 60 odd mins is not a good idea. You won't be able to reciprocate the same speed/efficiency over a 500 km trip.

Plan your trip with ample breaks. Since this is your first longish ride, I'd suggest you plan your trip something like this:-

                  1. Start early in the morning, say 5 AM
                  2. Ride non stop for 80-100 kms. Take a break. (15-20 mins)
Take this break even if you feel you're fit to go even more. Else, your butt will curse you soon.
                  3. Keep taking similar breaks every 60-70 kms thereafter.
                  4. Keep lots of water and preferably glucose with you.
                  5. Don't skip breakfast, but keep it light. (Road side dhabas will do!)
                  6. Take a camera/mobile (photos + keep in touch with family)
                  7. Keep couple of biscuit packets in case you're hungry and there's no food joint nearby.
                  8. Don't drink and ride, heck; avoid smoking while on tours. (may/may not apply to you)

NOTE - I, for myself have been following these pointers and now I can cover 500 odd kms in 8-9 hours. You may take 10 hours initially, but you won't feel a lot of fatigue and stress.
                  With time, you'll build endurance.

Now, ensure you get riding gear for such a long ride.
I'm not sure whether Bokaro has outlets for them, But Ranchi has a lot of SBKs. You can source them from there.
But, the easiest option is "order them online"
                  1. PlanetDSG : Motorcycle Riding Gear, Accessories, Apparel and..
                  2. eBay India - Online Shopping Mall: Free Auctions, Shop/Buy/Sell Mobiles, Cameras, Apparel, Computers, Bollywood Clothes & Indian Products

You can find jackets + gloves within 5.5K inclusive at PlanetDSG.
In case, that's difficult now, get yourself arm + knee guards + gloves from eBay. They should set you back by only 1200 - 1500 INR.

                  Happy riding.
                  Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

                    Thanks for replying sharan.
Your tips will definitly help me a lot but the first and foremost thing would be to get a permanent DL.

With body shops i meant - Shops that do paint jobs and all such errands.

I have one more question -
I have a keen interest in learning about a bike & its working. Is there any professional course that familiarizes bikers regarding their bikes ,its engine and all other parts & how they all combine to result in a monster tearing its way through the tarmac.?

Ok, now I get what you meant by body shops. Sorry bro, no idea regarding the same.
There are many road side mechanics who carry out paint-jobs just beside the Maruti Showroom and the Chevrolet Showroom in the City Centre area.

If your dad is in BSL, then it should be easier than if he weren't.
He can help you get permission from the ADM building (Administration Block, BSL) for getting a vocational training at any of the Yamaha/Hero Moto Corp/Bajaj workshops.

Trust me, in this 45 day period (at any workshop) you'll learn a lot about the internals. But be prepared to get your hands dirty and take a few risks (like screwing some internal parts), but its all in the game.
                      You'll love it.

Hmm, then I guess you may have to approach the workshops by yourself and try to coax the manager to let you stay and learn.
Regarding the polish part, its a DIY (Do It Yourself)

You can use Waxpol polish. Or, you can buy Amway/Modicare car polish and use it on your bike. Once polished, it'll last for a month. Else, you can get a teflon coat and it shall last for 3-4 months.
You can change engine oil by yourself, bleed the brake oil by yourself.

Please visit the DIY section of this website.
                          Link to DIY

I would like to ask one more thing.
How often do i get my bike serviced?
What parts do i get serviced?

I last got my bike serviced around diwali 2011.
That time i had 2500kms now i am upto 7500kms but i see no problem with my bike whatsoever.

Regarding service, there are a few misconceptions that I'd like to bust.
People think that changing the engine oil and washing the bike is called servicing.
Actually, the mechs perform the following in every service:-
                              1. Engine oil top-up/change
                              2. Carb cleaning (For non fi bikes, of course)
                              3. Bike wash
                              4. Compression check
                              5. Electricals check

If you want to get the above 5 done (actual servicing), you can get it done once in 6-7 months.
But, keep tab on your engine oil all the time. Replace engine oil every 2-2.5k kms. Never top it up. Just replace it.
Also, keep an eye on your brake pads (disk as well as drum)

There is an excellent mechanic just behind the Hero MotoCorp Showroom near Jai Jawan Petrol pump, Sector 4. You may want to pay him a visit.

                              Thanks.
