  • The BIG KanyaKumari Trip [Grand SouthIndian Road Trip]- Planning

    Hello Friends,

couple of weeks back some of us were discussing about having a grand tour to Kanyakumari, so as part of it, here is the initiation.

The idea is to cover most of the exciting parts of south India and reach Kanyakumari. and it will be around 4-5 day event.

mostly the ride involves most of the old members of the forum [will let u know the names once finalized plan]

it will be a relaxed Road Trip, emphasize is given to cover and feel/experience most beautiful and exotic places in South India.

Trip : Bangalore - Kanyakumari - Bangalore := it will involve many wonderful places around south India [still need to plan]

Trip Name: The Big kanyakumari Trip / Grand SouthIndian Road Trip

    Trip Duration :
4-5 days - planning to cover weekends and some generic holiday [non important one] to minimize the leave taking in office

Trip Tentative date: October-November time frame - after checking with all

Type of Ride : Adventurous - with most of the stay will not be planned in advance - have some camping idea also

    Total Disatnce : around 1800km to 3000km

Expected cost : 10k-15k [will be known once plan finalized]

    Num of Riders :
    limited to 10

    Plan status: initial

Others plz help with the route map and places to cover and also some suggestions , we have plenty of time

this post is result of request from few members

Not so good time as there're cyclones (unless its completely drought this year) usually between Sep end/Oct all way up to mid Dec every year (noticed in 2011, 2010 & 2009) especially on the coasts its not advisable.

I did a majorly unplanned ride in 2010. Kanpur to Kanyakumari. Aug-sep. 7000 kms and 16000 rupees. Solo.

I do believe you are planning too much. Just jot down the places you want to visit and then go with the flow. This much planning would make me constipated

^^ Camping in the cyclones will be so much fun. Imagine your tent does double duty as a parachute. Slept in Kanyakumari, woke up in Chennai

Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Am a resident of South TN, and if I were to plan a route from Bangalore to Bangalore reaching Kanyakumari.., this would be me...

Did my college in Coimbatore, and did a lotta Ooty trips in bike...
Native is a village at foothills of Kodaikanal, and so know that route too...
Living en route to Shengottai and did my schooling in Salem and know that area too...
So, felt like giving you some ideas.., a little different one though...
The roads chosen here are no 4-Lane roads except for the final leg of Krishnagiri-Bangalore and mostly through typical south TN villages. You can plan the day stops for yourself, but lemme list out a possible tourist spots en-route...

          1. Mysore-Masinagudi-Ooty ... Lovely roads upon mountains through the Western ghats
          2. Places near Ooty - Avalanche, Keti Valley and you can choose between Connor and Kothagiri, and I would be with Kothagiri.
          3. Aliyar Dam near pollachi, Amaravati Dam near Udumalpet, Palani Temple.
          4. Kodaikanal hill and the tourist spots near it.
          5. Srivilliputhur temple (TN govt. emblem)
          6. Picturesque route to Tenkasi.,
          7. Courtallam
          8. Shengottai and nearby places
          9. Papanasam, Kalakkad Tiger reserve, Bhanatheertham falls (have to check the permissions after the recent SC order)
          10. Kanyakumari and surroundings
          11. Tirunelveli
          12. Rameshwaram
          13. And the return leg till Tiruchi was as to reach Tiruchi asap
          14. Hill temple at tiruchi, kallanai, Srirangam Temple(if interested)
          15. To Salem, two possible routes, via namakkal in NH-7 or through Thuraiyur which is again a two laned roads with lotta hills and farmlands.
          16. Mettur Dam
          17. Hogennakkal Falls from mettur via. Perumballam, and trust me the roads are nice and well-laid.
          18. Krishnagiri and then Banglore

1800Kms and as roads chosen are State Highways., I think 5 days 'll be tighter. I hope atleast some points of this planner would help you all.

          The Route Map
The limiter kicks in @11,500 rpm just within a second after the first shift..And, that's where the fun begins !! ;)

So finally the Ride date has been finalized

Date: Feb 14/15/16/17 total 4 days [sat/sun + 2 working days , so only 2 day leave needed] ... very tight schedule
                Route: B'lore - Kollam - KK - Rameshwaram - B'lore

if any one joining let me know only 3 more seats are left

First day planning to ride for about 500-600km the big day, 2nd 3rd day will be covering 300km something

anyone have any idea of reducing the first day long ride to 400+km so that not to burden the ride, our idea is 2nd night stay near Kanyakumari and 3rd night near rameshwaram/madurai

suggest places to see with this schedule
