  • Bangalore to Bokaro Steel City.

    Hello guys,

Need some help here. But let me warn you beforehand.
Your helping pointers to me may very well flow down the drain. More on that later.

Come November, I've 14 days of approved leaves (from Nov13 to Nov26).
Hence I plan to visit my native - Bokaro Steel City, Jharkhand

    Q. What I want from you guys?
    A. Look into the itinerary I prepared, then suggest me the changes required.

My route plan (I just hate pure highway riding. They are boring)

    1. Bangalore (Sanjay Nagar) - Hyderabad = 564 kms
    2. Hyderabad - Nagpur = 498 kms
    3. Nagpur - Bhilai = 255 kms
    4. Bhilai - Raipur = 30 kms
    5. Raipur - Sambalpur = 275 kms
    6. Sambalpur - Jharsuguda = 51 kms
    7. Jharsuguda - Sundargarh = 30 kms
    8. Sundargarh - Ranchi = 245 kms
    9. Ranchi - Bokaro Steel City = 110 kms

    NET - 2058 kms

Now, let me talk about real world limitations.

    1. Estimated fuel expenditure - (2058/40) * 77 = 3961 INR (~4k INR)
This means, it'll be 8000 bucks for the round trip.

    2. Leaves - 14 days. Going home after a looooooong time (10 months)
If I tour on my bike, I'll take at least 6-7 days for covering the 4k kms (round trip)

    3. I have to attend Chhatth puja at home (its the biggest festival for us wherein we worship Sun god) and then I've my parent's 26th marriage anniversary too.

I discussed my plans with my dad. He is ok with the plan, but he wants me to take a flight for 2 reasons:-

    1. Booking today, I'm getting round trip flight tickets for 9-10k (very much the same as fuel expenses + food + stay)

    2. I get to stay for 12 days at home instead of 7.

Anyways, the final decision is upon me, but I shall book tickets nonetheless. I may get it cancelled in the 11th hour if all goes well.

But, I still want the people's opinion on the itinerary. It may help a traveller in future if not me.

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Dad can give 200 reasons or 20,000 or more. There must be only one reason in your mind. . Like your going to take a flight.

What type of changes are you talking about??

          the route you mentioned i.e.

          1. Bangalore (Sanjay Nagar) - Hyderabad = 564 kms
          2. Hyderabad - Nagpur = 498 kms
          3. Nagpur - Bhilai = 255 kms
          4. Bhilai - Raipur = 30 kms
          5. Raipur - Sambalpur = 275 kms

          7. Jharsuguda - Sundargarh = 30 kms
          8. Sundargarh - Ranchi = 245 kms
          9. Ranchi - Bokaro Steel City = 110 kms

is pure highway. few are state highways others are national highway but dont worry sambalpur to bokaro is not boring. full of traffic, bad roads in some parts, not wide open speeding road. sambalpur - jharsuguda - (and may be) sundargarh is full of dust too.

by the way, petrol prices in chattisghar is ~71 and in Orisa & Jharkhand its around ~68 (normal one not branded)

And your father is right, flight is less exhausting, less time taking, safer etc and costs almost same.. but its petrol flowing in your veins right, no can do anything about it

And also, you said 6-7 days for 2k kms trip so, you'll be staying for haults somewhere i guess, which means you'll be paying for hotel/motel or dhabas.. adding to the cost.

P.S. have done jamshedpur to Raipur 796 kms in around 22 hours (including 2 time fooding + 1 power nap)

Baharagora - Ghatshila - Jadugora and near by roads are in shit like condition. its NH 33. one of the worst NH in whole india.

better do Baleshwar - Jharpokriya (place where you meet NH 6, at a round about, locals call it bombay chowk) - then turn left to Bisoi - leave NH 6 & head towards Rayarangpur - you'll take the single lane road - then turn right for jamshedpur from Rayarangpur main chowk - then head home.

@aargee, I think GQ between Bhubaneshwar - Baripada (or is it Baleshwar) is still in developing stage..

I wouldn't say developing stage; everything is good...just that the connection to bridge from the road needs to be smooth finish, otherwise, one feels like hitting a pothole everytime; speeds above 90 Kmph (on CBR 250R) is asking for trouble. BTW, it's Baleshwar from my experience

Err...don't know what to say, but it is easy to keep the speeds over 100 (experienced with CBR 250R), just that one has to watch out for this awaiting disaster; but this doesn't mean it will slow us down to a great extent. Hope you got the point.

Ya RG, my route plan was as per Google uncle.
This route that you said seems better than the earlier one. But I wonder if I'd be able to reach Orissa/Odisha with the current endurance levels in one day!

Try a series of short one day runs before starting this trip actually; for example, on a Sunday...
                        Bangalore - 4:00 AM
                        Krishnagiri - 5:30 AM
                        Vellore - 7:30 AM
                        Chennai - 9:30 AM

Spend sometime with xBhp gang, have lunch & then...
                        Chennai - 1:00 PM
                        Vellore - 3:00 PM
                        Krishnagiri - 5:00 PM
                        Hosur - 6:00 PM
                        Bangalore - 7:00 PM

Trust me, your confidence will go up like hell!!! By the time you would've done close to 750 odd Km...in a day with breaks. If you want even aggressive plan...I can guide you

No problem. take two days for reaching cuttak. stay for the night.
3rd day start by 4 A.M and you'll be home at around 10 P.M. if you dont wanna ride at night then stay here. Jamshedpur to Bokaro is less then 250 kms.

Even if you go by this, you'll be home on 4th day before noon.

And if you havent done this kind of long trips before, do what aargee have suggested.

Hmm, have done BLR-CHN but in 2 days, one day for each side. Sounds good. Me will try it soon.

Ya, I'll take the Bisoi route. And, the max distance I have toured is ~1000kms (round trip). Hence, I need to build on my endurance levels.

Ok dude. Take your own time. Safety is first & foremost priority.A tiny tip for endurance (may be you know it): take smaller sized meals (compared to regular once) every few hours and include lots of carbohydrates, protein and water/other fluids..
