Hi,

We did Mt.Abu ride in Feb'11. Please refer to the below log for more inputs and our experience of Mt.Abu


Dec - Feb is the best time to be in Rajasthan so weather would be nice and cold.

Please be careful once you come close to Ahmedabad as there is a turn that will lead you to NH8 and in case if you miss that turn you'll go straight to National Express highway where bikes are not allowed. Once you reach Sardar Ring road please ask for necessary direction as it is very confusing and cross Ahmedabad at least before sunset.

Route taken - Thane - Surat - Vadodara - Ahmedabad - Himmatnagar - Ambaji - Mt.Abu
Return Leg - Mt.Abu - Palanpur - Ahmedabad - Vadodara - Surat - Thane

Would you recommend the himmatnagar route or the palanpur one if we were to choose one? In terms of better roads, traffic etc.

If you go via Himmatnagar / Ambaji, this route is full of twisties after you cross Ambaji and scenic views all the way up to Mt.Abu however you might encounter little traffic as it's a religious place but traffic is for a very short distance.

Via Palanpur is 4 lane straight highways where you can hit triple digits with ease. Ahmedabad - Palanpur highway (NH14) is the place where you can open up your bike completely. We did complete circuit and found out that Palanpur route is much more quicker way to reach Mt.Abu and it has butter smooth roads.

So you decide which route you would like to choose

Looking at the line up of bikes which are coming with you, I would suggest go for Palanpur route.
