Cross Country Trip
It has been my dream to take the bike farther on and the question has always remained how far? So in this summer i am planning a 30 day 10,000 km road trip across India. I am starting from my home town Chennai with my CBR 250r and i want to take the coastal route to rameshwaram from there to kanyakumari and going up on the west side thiruvananthapuram, allepey, munnar, cochin, goa, mumbai, vadodara, jaipur, delhi, agra, darjeeling, shillong, dimapur, kohima, imphal, guwhati, kolkatta, bhubaneshwar, vishakapatnam, hyderbad, bangalore before finishing off at chennai. I might have missed quite a few places enroute.
So i am looking forward to your valuable suggestions about how to make this trip better? Any ideas are welcome.

30 days might be too littleBiking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

well we had a similar situation last year however one gentle man did his pan india trip in 41 days with 17k kms...
10k in 30 days seems ok and doable but its gonna be an endurance run.. also to be lil easy.. keep 4-5 days in buffer...
but just a suggestion... do not plan to head North anytime in may & june....
check for the Pan India Trip thread in tourer : itinerary..
here you go. check this one..

From my experience, for a non-aggressive riding...
- If you are visiting the important beaches from Kanyakumari all the way up to Mumbai, it easily takes about 4 days along the coastal route
- Siligouri all the way up to Chennai easily takes 4 days excluding turn towards Hyderabad
- Delhi to Bihar is 2 days easy
- Hyderabad to Chennai is 1 day
- Chennai up to Kanyakumari (barring Rameshwaram & Danushkodi) is 1 day otherwise keep aside 3 days
- Mumbai to Delhi via non GQ, but fast route (which excluded Ahmedabad) easily gobbles 2 days; 3 days via Ahmedabad
- Kolkatta up to Chennai takes 2 days bare minimum excluding Hyderabad & easily 3 days via Hyderabad
The above pretty much summarizes to 13-15 days easily
This is excluding...
- Days/time spent on servicing the motorcycle
- Exploring the seven sisters might take 10-13 days from hear say
- Without visiting the beaches or any local attraction
- With a sleep of 5-6 hours without logging any data; about 4 hours including self maintaining your motorcycle & recording the data
- Sometimes skipping lunch or even B'Fast

And next, the most important factor; I'm not sure if you'd calculated them - MOOLAH!!!
Fuel
10000 Km/35 Kmpl = 285 ~300 liters of Petrol; this means 300 liters X Rs 70 = Rs 21000
Accommodation
Rs 750 X 30 days = Rs 22000 (unless you risk sleeping on footpath, pavements, beaches & fuel stations)
Food & beverages
Rs 300 X 30 days = Rs 9000
Total is just Rs 52000 bare minimum on these excluding the service the motorcycle & keeping the accommodation at bare minimum prices
And remember, riding 800 Km one day is completely different from riding 300 Km everyday for next one week & very hard for one month to be on road; I only hope this question of yours remains fantasy for now
And don't get me wrong here, have you ever ridden for about 100-200 odd Km on peak summer, forget RJ/DL, atleast in AP & around Vellore? Last time myself & Binoy rode in the month of June between Jaipur & Behror & we started feeling immense cold out of extreme heat in the afternoon; we felt like our brains are being fried & bones melted. So think twice before attempting it next month
IMO, try doing something like GQ or cover the south coastal between TN & KL in a week's time & then start thinking about pan India tripLast edited by aargee; 04-16-2013, 01:49 PM.Skill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle

I have considered the above and although i am planning this ride to be a 30 day ride my first few days will determine my course i might restrict it to tamilnadu and kerala and southern karnataka if it proves to be too futile to go further. Secondly regarding the money is there any chance to get sponsored for such a ride in any way. Third problem being the bike how frequently does it need to be serviced? Can it take the pressure of high rpm riding continuously? How much of engine damage will be caused? How much will it cost to get it fixed?

Great plans bro. Such a cross country trip is in my mind too. Its still time for that anyways. 30days out alone will be a heck of an experience.
Best of luck pal. And cut the excessive thinking just head out.Code:https://www.instagram.com/ankit_himalayas/

After some researching i am deciding to drop the northeast part and keep it only till west bengal as it needs permits and also i have no clue how dangerous is it to ride there.

Did you also know you need ur vehicle to be serviced? What are u going to do about rains? Which North are u talking about? Starting from Kholapur, Nagpur to Rambha everything is North unless you thought Leh & Ladakh are qualifiedSkill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle
