  • Delhi to Agra via YAMUNA EXPRESSWAY

    Hello my fellow xbhpians ,
I am planning for a One day trip(8 am to 8pm) to agra the next week .
Since I have never been on a trip(new to biking) , I have certain queries which I hope my friends here will help me in .
My bike Bajaj Avenger 220 shows 6000 km on odometer and was last serviced last month around a 1000 km back.
I am planning to go with my girlfriend which explains the time limitation (she needs to be home around 8pm max ) .
I have certain queries as follows -
1- Is it safe to ride a bike on Yamuna Expressway ?
2- How long approx will it take using the yamuna expressway from delhi to agra ?
    3-Should I service my bike before going ? (sorry i am a novice :P)
4-I heard about keeping the tyre pressure low , how much and why ?
5-Will my bike Avenger be able to do constant 100km/hr speed without breakdown ?

Thanks In advance and any other information and advice will be really helpful

    Query Approved
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Bro.. I never Advice someone.. who is specially travel with female companion to use that route.. few reason that i observed during my visit on Aug2013 through that rode...

      1) Very Boring nothing to see.. not even a food joint.. but yes you will get one or two food joint once you cross toll on that express way.

      2) Secondly, yes a tyre pressure is need to be on lower side, as continue travelling on this road leads to tyre burst.. which is very common on this express way...

      3) thirdly, As you are travelling on two wheeler without any additional tyre or spare tyre.. think if you got puncture and the next toll is 50km away.. kya karoge.. dost... picnic ki to watt lag jaaye ge..

      4) Too much toll they charged for four wheeler.... i dont know how much they charged for 2 wheeler...

      5) my suggestion to you my frd, dont use that express if you are alone and with female companion...

      6) better use old road (NH) you may enjoy the break along with any help during break down.. purani road itni bhi buri nahi hai , as i used that road while coming back from agra..

      7) Due to constant speed, and some proportion of road is cemented type.. the pressure of tyre needs to kept low..

      8) you can easily use bike upto 2500km, keep bike under 80kmph with a short burst to and above 100kmph...

      9) check you tyre personally, any nail or herethere may spoil your program...

      10) you can enjoy with your GF at many place, if you follow old express.. like i DID...

REST ON YOU.. BUT IF I AM IN YOUR PLACE I WILL NEVER USE THAT EXPRESS ALONE, WITHOUT PROPER BACKUP DURING BREAKDOWN..

      hope its clear

Never been on a trip but you want to take your girl along? Do you consider that sensible?

        1. It is safe to ride anywhere, provided you ride responsibly. The answer to which only you know.
        2. Including breaks on an Avenger, verrrry long, since it is a boring straight highway.
        3. Not really, check oil, air, petrol and you should be good to go.
        4. Keep the recommended tyre pressure, I assume that your tyres are in good condition.
        5. Yes.

Last bit of advice, never try doing a time trial, that too on your first ride. Enjoy yourself, go slow and steady, spend the night in Agra if required. Chasing the clock often leads to unwanted events, which are best avoided.

Actually I was more worried about the time limitations we have , around 12 hours for up and down , so Do you think that will be possible if we use the national highway ? Also my tyres are relatively new , just 6 months old and not much distance has been covered using them , so the chances of tyre bursting should be low ?

See time it is ok if you want to see only taj mahal....

A car usually took 4 hrs (approx) to reach , bike hmm... 5 hrs.. try to avoid going there on sunday , Saturday (MAD RUSH)....

            Friday .... it is closed...

I still advice you to take OLD NH.. rest nothing to worry.. dost..

One last advice try to entry taj mahal from GATE NO. 03 , its a direct a parking is just in front of gate, many person have little bit knowledge about this gate.. actually this gate is frequently used for VIP.. but a common public can also use the same... its hardly one min walk from that gate to parking.. thus safe your time , also queue ....

Seen taj mahal is only a game of 2 hrs.... MAX to MAX.. rest you can decide...

Old nh. .? That nh2 via kosi kalan route..?
              I've done EXPRESSWAY two times,on a ns and a r15v2
Up to 30-50kms, it's pure fun
After that, it's just simple boring trip.
Considering to use nh2 this time
Oh by the way, last time I went through YEW, toll for bike was 230 ( both side one day)

Speeds on ns in initial 80kms were 130+
                      On r15 v2 first 80kms were 120-124km
After that dropped on 100-105 km/hr. Time taken was around 3hrs, we did stopped here and there.
                      5 hours via nh2 i suppose
Max on avenger, it will take 4 hours via yew

                          No.no no.no
First time with female and that too with 12 hour window
                          Please avoid that
See myself I went with brother first time to do a perimeter check
Please don't be daring with female companion, if something goes wrong even a little bit, you don't know what it can do, even break your r/ship.
YEW is simple but can be a hell if you get into even air leak, nature call etc
So imho, if you are trying to take risk and believe God's are with you, go with yew, but KEEP WATER TO BE POURED ON TYRES AFTER 60-70KMS ,chances of tyre burst will reduce by 60%( experience) .
If you don't care about you then atleast
Care about female companion, because she is daughter of someone else.
We didn't get into trouble as both bikes (r and n) were just 1000kms old.
Edit_- no matter what way you go MAKE SURE FOR GF
                          1. Helmet and decent gloves (even those 300 bucks probiker gloves ATLEAST ).
                          2. A strong, thick branded jeans, not those janpath things.
                          3. A thick. Coat or branded full sleeves jacket
                          4. Boys type shoes not sandals, canvas shoes.
And she may kick you for asking all this, tell her to keep a bag and in it place all makeup, clothes she wanna wear in TM (experience man)
