  • Roadtrip to Nepal ( Kathmandu)

    Hi,

I am planning a road-trip from Lucknow to Kathmandu on my bike. Though everything is in order there are some points that are needed to be explained.

-- I have checked on the net that once you enter Nepal, you need to register your vehicle there which cost around 500 Nepali rupees / day. Any idea ?
-- The route that I am planning to take is via Gorakhpur, as I have herd plenty of folks advice that cross that city asap because of its criminal activities . Need few pointer on that too.
-- What will be the duration of stay at Nepal ( I can stay there max for a week ) will that be enough to cover all the places?
-- I have heard that Indian sim cards do not work in Nepal ? Need info on that too.

In a nutshell anyone who has been to Nepal from his / her own conveyance can guide me on the above points will be really helpful. As IM going solo so anyone who wants to join is also welcome. In his own bike of course

Thanks and I will be waiting for the guidelines.

Hello dj_5001, I'm from Nepal but I live in the eastern part. You are planning to come through the western part of Nepal so I donot know much about there. But if you have plans coming to eastern parts too, then I can definitely help you. For your reference, I am nearer to west bengal and bihar states. Siliguri is three hours ride from here. So if you plan to go to darjeeling or sikkim, then you'll have to go through the place where I live. I would be pleased to help you if you need any.

      Cheers.

      Regards,
      Shrey.

Re: Roadtrip to Nepal ( Kathmandu)

Last year, I was in Nepal for about 9 days. I didn't go by bike though but I could cover most of the places which every tourist should visit. Like: Thamel, Kathmandu (city tour), Last Resort, Maneshwor (for adventure sports) and Pokhra. There were few places left but I was running out of my office leaves so came back.

And yeah, Indian sims (Vodafone) work there. It did for me back then.

Thanks for all the comments , really appreciate the help. One more thing I have just found out ( keeps getting better day by day) that the current driving license that I have will not be accepted there cause it is not the smart one ( the one that has chip on it) so now I have applied for a license also. Way to go RTO guys!! I guess no one bothered to tell the citizen that the current DL's are obsolete.

Anyways thanks Shrey but I don't think that I can manage to go come at your place in this trip, however I am also planing to go down to vizag so let's see I will in touch.

          Thanks again for the responses.
