  • Delhi to mumbai solo ride

    Bikers,

    My greetings to you.

A friend of mine has been asking me to visit her. Her huaband being a biker got excited when i said i would be riding to mumbai.

Now i am planning to make it happen.

    1. What is the best route i can take
    2. How much time would it take
    3. What about riding in hot weather and rains in mumbai and around
    4. What gear and stuff should i carry
    5. Places to stay between delhi-mumbai (i am thinking a stopover at udaipur)
    6. What are road conditions?
    7. Is it safe to travel so much in a solo ride?

    Query Approved

    1. Delhi - Udaipur - Ahmedabad - Mumbai
    2. 2-3 days depending entirely on you
    3. Drink lots of water. Keep out the water. Search the forum in 'The Art of Safe Riding' section for both your queries.
    4. ATGATT. Spares, tools, rain gear and two mobile phones!
    5. Udaipur is good, some pull straight to Gujarat on the first day itself. Depends on your comfort levels.
    6. Roads are fantastic for the most part.
    7. Yup, provided you keep your head firmly placed on your shoulders.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Re: Delhi to mumbai solo ride

I did a similar route back in July but the opposite way.
So i'll suggest something from my experience.

      For you i'd recommend:
Delhi-Jaipur ( it was more of a patchy highway, i didn quite fancy the roads and at some places it was broken like hell , though i did only half of this highway as i turned towards Rohtak and didn go all the way to delhi). After reaching Jaipur head towards Udaipur. ( i took the chittorgarh, bhilwara, nasirabad, kishangarh, ajmer route, which was great, the roads were great for the most part, less truck traffic, and vast stretches of empty land ). Reach udaipur and call it a night.

      Udaipur to Mumbai:
Now this is a very vast stretch, i guess about 850 kms, so please first decide if you have the stamina to do this. Its gonna be really hot ( it was really hot in July ).
Secondly, the most important point. DO NOT GO TO AHEMDABAD from Udaipur. Trust me. There is a state highway that connects vadodra with himmatnagar ( a little ahead of himmatnagar), you encounter Modasa, Godhra, Halol. TAKE THAT. The highway from vadodra to ahemdabad is in such a despicable condition, with loads of truck traffic and the heat beating down on you.

When you are coming from Udaipur, you will encounter that highway on your left, with a huge green board saying a left for Modasa. Once you reach vadodra, roads are the best uptil mumbai. 6 lane, smooth tarmac. ( it was raining heavily when i started from mumbai till vadodra and i was easily able to maintain 100kmph in the heavy rain ).

If you do feel tired, you can always stop in vadodra/surat.

Please do invest in proper riding gear, and ride safe
