• Bangalore - Nepal - Bangalore : Itinerary help needed

Hi All,

This is my first post in xBHP, and I am excited to join the community

I along with a friend are planning to ride our bikes to Nepal in December 2014.

I have roughly put up my itinerary, but I have no clue whether its possible due to the winter.
And help in validating my plan would be greatly helpful.

The itinerary is as follows.

13-Dec-2014 Leave Bangalore and reach Belgaum, KA ( My native, so want to ride through here )
14-Dec-2014 Sangamner, MH
15-Dec-2014 Indore, MP
16-Dec-2014 Jhansi, UP
17-Dec-2014 Kanpur, UP
18-Dec-2014 Meet an old friend and Bike Service
19-Dec-2014 Lumbini, Nepal ( Over night stay at the village )
20-Dec-2014 Chitwan National Park ( Jungle Safari and stay over night )
21-Dec-2014 Pokhara ( Boating and Paragliding, stay over night )
22-Dec-2014 Tatopani ( enjoy the hot springs and just relax )
23-Dec-2014 Muktinath ( Mountain view of Annapurna Circuit )
24-Dec-2014 Ghansikuwa ( Visit Basantpur Hill Station )
25-Dec-2014 Start riding back from Ghansikuwa stop at Basti, UP
26-Dec-2014 Satna, MP
27-Dec-2014 Nagpur, MH
28-Dec-2014 Latur, MH
29-Dec-2014 Belgaum, KA
30-Dec-2014 Reach back Bangalore, KA

I have just put up this itinerary by searching on the net for good places in Nepal.
But have no clue whether this is doable in December. I have no clue if fuel will be available on my route.
And I have no clue if its a safe route.

Any suggestion would greatly help me.

Thanks in advance folks

Can't speak about the entire route, but will comment on what I know.

Do Indore to Kanpur in one day itself. Will give you a couple of days rest and getting your bikes prepped up for the long slog ahead.

On your return leg, that Basti- Nagpur stretch is not very safe and should be done during the day. Keep in mind you could get heavy fog thus effectively reducing riding hours available.

Weather conditions in Nepal can't say never been there.

Also what are the bikes you guys are using?
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Do provide details about the bike you are riding, previous endurance rides you have done and most important, get used to some basic repair of bikes just in case. Pokhara and area around faces dense fog during December, also keep in mind that those roads are not suitable for ripping. You need to have a lot of patience and be ready for unexpected roadblocks. Last time I went there, I was unfortunate to be caught up in a 4 kilometer long jam. wasted 3 hours there.
There are other things to keep in mind too such as budget, pillion if any.

Very true with what he says, since its your first post here, provide previous riding details for any comments to be given. You need to do your homework before doing this and if your not gone on long rides before then would suggest first to get the hang of it with couple of rides and then go for the big one. Like said there is always another day....

Hey folks, thanks for your replies

I own a Royal Enfield ThunderBird Twin Spark.
My friend would be riding a Bajaj Avenger.

I have done quite a few rides, though was never part of the online communities.
I have done a ride from Belgaum, Karnataka to Ladakh a year and a half ago (~5000KMs)
And a few 1000-2000 KMs rides in the south.
I am used to long rides. Not as much as you gurus though

I do have a bit of knowledge to repair my bike, like changing cables, fuses and stuff. But nothing more. This is a weak area for me

My touring buddy on this Nepal trip in a complete newbie. It will be his first long ride. The longest one he did was only on the Golden Quadrilateral to his home town (~1000+ KMs).
The Monk,
Thankfully there is small change in the return plan. We are riding from Basti, UP - Kanpur - Jhansi and catching a train back to Bangalore.
Hope will not be facing the un-safe region.
shashank ashwin,
Is the route and time I have allocated in the itinerary even feasible ?
I have no clue about the road and weather conditions.
MUSTANG 27,
Very true, homework is a must. Then is when I am seeking your help

Thanks again for your replies guys

Hello there,
I am from Nepal and although even I have not been to places such as muktinath, but i can tell you for sure that you cannot complete riding from tatopani to muktinath in a single day or two. Muktinath is way beyond your expectation. According to as I've heard, you will need atleast 3-4 days for muktinath alone. The place is a heaven but to reach there is a nightmare. And in no way an avenger would reach there as far as I know. I reside in the eastern region of Nepal and where you are planning to visit is the western parts. So it won't be possible for us to meet but I will try help you in all possible ways if you need any..
Cheers..and goodluck.

Thanks a ton for the info.
I really wish we catch up
May be on our next ride to Nepal

Do you mean we will need 3-4 days only to travel from Tatopani to Muktinath ? Isn't it only 73 KMs ?
I know its a tough route. Someone took 9 hours do cross that over a 4X4 !!!
So I am sure its really difficult. But would it really need 3-4 days ?

If that's the case, my trip will go in jeopardy

Try to take an extra day and enter from Raxaul side. I have travelled from that side and the roads are pretty good. segagt_0 , your inputs requested .

Hi shashank ashwin,

Are you suggesting me take a route from Kanpur to Raxaul, Bihar ? Or another route that will not go through to Kanpur itself ?

Thanks again

Brother if you could just insert the screenshot of google maps of the routes that you've planned then maybe I could lay better insights on the routes.

Cheers!!

Hey People,

Thanks a ton for the inputs.
Unfortunately, could not do this ride :'(

Some work came up and had to cancel this.

But since Nepal is so exciting, and I have less time, I am joining in for a drive from Bangalore to Nepal

Thankfully for me another group from bangalore is driving in Xylo to Nepal
they have a seat vacant, I am joining them.

I am very disheartened that I am not riding.
But, something is better than nothing.

Thanks for all ur feedback
