Hey Folks,

I have to be at Kanpur for friend's wedding on 14th of Feb 2015. I am planning to ride there with my wife. I just need to know if the road conditions are good and is it safe to travel with females in UP.

Google map throws me 3 options and I believe that the best one would be NH-2 via Agra. Any idea if this can be completed within 6 -7 hours ride ?

P.S : I will be riding on my CL500.

Query Approved

I guess am the best guy on xBhp to answer this question, since i 'commute' to Kanpur almost every month on my bike

Yes the road is safe enough for women, don't ride around at night, not safe in general especially around Firozabad and Itawa.

The simplest, fastest route to take for you would be Delhi-Greater Noida - Agra- Kanpur. Remember to fuel up before the Yamuna expressway, the last thing you want is to be low on fuel when you are riding there.

The fastest i have done Delhi- Kanpur is in 5 hours. But now with road diversions from Itawa- Kanpur, it takes me 6 hours 15 minutes to complete the 497 km journey from my house in Delhi to home in Kanpur. With pillion don't expect anything less than 7 hours. With female pillion another half an hour can be added! With Bullet another half hour should be added making it closer to 8 hours

Another helpful tip, is to keep 12 rupees in one pocket of your jacket and 150 rupees in the other pocket. You need the former for the DND and the latter for the Yamuna expressway.

Road conditions are by and large decent.

All the best with your ride
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Though I have done gurgoan - lucknow in a car several times but the road is quite doable via bike as well IMO. On YE, you can get fuel after Jewar toll (you will have to exit expressway and come back again on it after a fill. Google map cordinates: 28.039159, 77.587141). After YE, the highway road is mostly 4 lanes. Just ride normally with all senses on. You will face many ghungat wali aunties crossing roads without checking oncoming traffic. Just be cautious.

PS: Yamuna expressway emergency helpline number is 18001027777 for breakdown and empty tanks.

Thank you for approving the query. I will fuel up before leaving from Gurgaon. and then as pulsater mentioned, just after Jewar toll. Post that at Agra and then Kanpur. Are there fuel pumps between Agra and Kanpur ?

I also have to hunt for safe budget hotels for a night stay with good parking. May bug you on that if google doesn't help me :P.

You didn't mention you are leaving from Gurgaon. Going via the Yamuna Expressway wouldn't make a lot of sense then. It would take atleast an hour or more from Gurgaon to Greater Noida and thus wasting away any advantage that expressway gives.

From Gurgaon the route is Gurgaon-Sohna-Palwal-Mathura-Agra-Kanpur. Sohna to Palwal is a two lane undivided road with big speedbreakers so be careful there. Though it is just a short 30 km stretch and shouldn't be too much of a bother.

On this route you will find tons of petrol pumps at every nook and cranny. Around Itawa, there are fuel bunks but all of them look rather shady, i would avoid refuelling on this section.

Where in Kanpur do you need to stay, might be able to suggest something decent.

Cheers

So, I completed my ride yesterday. Few learnings:

1. Sohna palwal road is full of speed breakers which will dampen your ride for sure. Post palwal the route is pretty good.
2. One may face traffic at Agra depending on the time one crosses it. However, if you use Yamuna expressway you will bypass all of that.
3. Post agra and till kanpur road is good. There are various diversions due to construction of flyovers.
4. There is no issue of petrol availability on both yamuna expressway and sohna palwal agra kanpur route.

Many thanks to you for pointers to the hotels but my friend had already arranged for our stay.

Guragon to Kanpur

Hey,

I am planning to ride to Kanpur on 7th November 2015.

Thinking of going via Yamuna Expressway. Is there any better route for Kanpur? Also, anyone would like to join me?

What would be your mode of transport?
And if you have to go to Kanpur only, that is the best route as per now.

Done the ride via Yamuna Expressway. Route was good apart from some rough patches between Etawah and Kanpur. Left early in morning(4 a.m) and total travel from Gurgaon to Kanpur was 7 hours. I was hoping to see some riders on Yamuna Expressway as it was Sunday but didn't found any.
