• Need Suggestion on Ride from Mumbai to Delhi.

Hello guys
I am going to ride from Mumbai to Delhi on end of this month. I need a suggestion and want to know if this route via NH8 is safe for ride?

First this route from Mumbai to Udaipur 725 km via NH8

And then...
There are two ways from Udaipur to Kishangarh/Ajmer
>One via Mangalwad > Chittorgarh > Bhilwara > Nasirabad thats via NH79 319km

>And the another via Nathdwara > Rajsamand > Beawar > Ajmer via NH8 303km

I have planned to take this second way and finally this way from Ajmer to Delhi

Please do let me know anything you know about this route. I have planned to complete this in 2 days or 3 days at max if needed under certain condition.

I have not idea where to stay at night. All I'm thinking is to ride to udaipur at first day and spend night there and next day enter delhi till evening/night. So would also like to know anything about hotel accommodations you may know about any place in this route.

Also do let other members know about this if you know anyone who ride from this route. Any kind of input is most welcome.

Have a good day [emoji106]

NH79 route is more favoured. It has better roads compared to the other route and is faster.(Apr 2015)
Note: The other route is scenic too but be ready for some rim-breaker potholes along the way (Jan 2013)

Udaipur is a decent stop for you and you will get multiple stay options. In case you are getting late, Himmatnagar is the next best place. There is a hotel Landmark there which has safe parking for bikes.
Two days are more than enough for this journey. In case you have 3 days in hand, maybe take a detour to Kutch/explore Udaipur and Pushkar and then proceed to Delhi.
The road is safe, though oncoming truck headlights at night will be a pain in the a**

NH79 which u mentioned is from Udaipur to Ajmer or you suggest to take NH79 all the way from Mumbai to Delhi??

Because there is another way which is bit longer at 1402km but it pass thru NH3 & NH79. Here is the screenshot

Which one would you suggest?

I will not drive at night. Only day driving.

I meant only Udaipur-NH76-NH79-Kishangarh-Jaipur bypass.
On the NH3 route, till Nashik it will be a lot of traffic (specially mumbai exit)
From there on till Mhow (that will have to be your night stop) is decent roads and some nice hilly section too but with way too many speed-breakers
Mhow - Chittorgarh is fine. A few months back there was some diversion but shouldn't be too much of a problem. Don't take the Tonk road from Chittorgarh, stick to the regular Kishangarh road.

Since this is the first time you are doing this route and you don't want to drive at night, I would suggest two options.
1. Mumbai very early (before sun breaks-> Exit Thane) and get to Udaipur and enjoy the lovely food there. Next day, Udaipur to Delhi (Leave as early as possible. Night drive on jaipur-delhi on sunday evenings is not a pleasant experience with all the Fortuners trying to squash you down :P )
2. Mumbai - Udaipur - Pushkar (its a fun place for a night) - Gurgaon.

So my plan should be like this
Mumbai to Udaipur via NH8, spend night in Udaipur, then
Udaipur to Delhi via Kishangarh NH79

Just a small question. What bike you planning on riding? The first day is quite a distance. And if you get caught in Maharashtra rain on exiting Mumbai, the going will get extremely tough.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

With a CD Dawn, you are going to be riding at 80kmph max. Average speed of around 50? Doing 700+ kms in a day is going to take a LONG time. You will stop for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

My suggestion, re-plan your route, basis the distances you can cover on your motorcycle. Most guys here ride 150cc+ bikes, and thus they advice is basis their experience on those motorcycles.

Whether you feel it is going to rain or not, keep an eye the weather and go prepared.

All the best with your ride

No checkpost anywhere. None that i can remember. And as long as you have all your papers (make a set of photocopies as well and keep), you won't have any trouble.

Good point by Monk. CD Dawn will take some more time to do the same distance at sane speeds. You might want to budget 3 days then.
Maybe Mumbai (very very early) - HimmatNagar (with the option of falling back to Ahmedabad if getting late) - Ajmer/Jaipur - Gurgaon.

No checkposts etc as such but once late at night I did have a nasty run-in with corrupt Jaipur cops.

Yeah will plan my journey according. If i able to maintain average of 50kph than at 15 hours i can make it to Udaipur and can have dinner & sleep there, but again breakfast & lunch is also there so will have to see as udaipur is quite far..

Will take the decision of night stay during the journey. I can definitely make it to Himmatnagar at least, then depending upon the time, distance & stamina will decide whether to stay back or move forward to the next location.

I will definitely have to leave mumbai very very early as possible. I am very excited and little bit worry too...
Excited because it will be amazing to cover such long distance in bike...and
Worry because i have never done such long distance in my life..max i've done is 400km in a day without much problem and can do more i've confidence.
After all every experience in life is always a first experience.

If u've heard of a guy 'Devjeet' he covered saddle sore1500km in splendor pro in 24 hrs. Thats 62kph average. So i feel i can make it to Udaipur on first day, let see...
I'll also have quite heavy luggage with me as i'm relocating to Delhi.

My main purpose of opening this thread is to know which way would be best and safe.

Thank you guys

Ya i saw that way it bypasses Ahmedabad. Google maps show that way only and it meets NH8 at Samalaji. Actually it is shorter than going thru Ahmedabad.

Re: Need Suggestion on Ride from Mumbai to Delhi.

Hi all

I made Mumbai to New Delhi in just 2 days. I halt at Udaipur and then reached to New Delhi next day.

On 2nd October pack start at 6 AM all my luggage. I decided to leave early at 4 am however I had so much things with me that it took way longer to pack all things up.

My first destination was Surat around 300 kms from Mumbai. At first I thought this is very near I will make it easily however when I start to drive I realized, its not coming not coming, I counting down the meter but its not coming at all, I became little bit scared at once and I thought ‘How will make it to Delhi’. Seriously this was a longest journey I had ever done on bike, and when u do it for the first time it really makes you feel little bit worry. But I had confidence because I overhauled my bike engine as a bike completely of my own with the help of sibun shoeb2015 Pinaki and therefore I trust on it a lot. 12 years old 1+lac kms, completely hand made machine till runs like its out from factory.

Coming back to trip, my avg speed was 50 km/s so I planned to skip my breakfast I wanted to reach Udaipur anyhow by end of the day, if not by chance, i planned to cover up as much as kms I can. I had lunch at 12pm soon after I crossed Surat. I halt at tea type stall, there was few benches kept under the tree. What a peace full place it was. I sat under the tree to have lunch. I like that place and still carrying an image of that place in my mind. The guys at tea stall was Nepali, very nice guy, seeing my bike started talking to me asked from where I am coming and where to going. I told mum-delhi, he was amazed to see me & my bike, he asked when I will reach and all, I told about my plan and he said this is the mind blowing thing I ever seen in my life. This cd-dawn is so old how it will reach to Delhi he asked. It will reach for sure, I said.

Continuing with the trip, I took right cut from Vadodara which took me to inner roads which were not good at all it reduced my average speed a lot. The road was ok type but there was lot of road passing in the ways which walking peoples, bikes, cars and even buffalo cart were crossing the road which was really very irritating, there were speed breakers too. The way actually went thru inside city twice which was time consuming a lot. I would not advise anyone to take this route. Better stick to NH8. I had to asked people for the way, at once i asked directly for Udaipur. Udaipur was very far, i was at Gujarat, the guy to whom i asked was shocked to hear that i am going to Udaipur, hell i didnt told them that i'm actually going to Delhi, otherwise dont know what would have happened to them.

When reached Shamlaji at around 8:30pm it was dark all over and I was very very tired, feeling sleepy too, disparately wanted to have stay but also I wanted to stick to my plan. If didn't make it to Udaipur next day would have to drive more kms which could have result in another halt. I had to make a decision whether to stay there or to move to Udaipur. Shamlaji and all other places before was very small places and Udaipur is the only which was good city to halt at. Since I bypassed Ahmedabad & Hemnatnagar, I had to reach Udaipur. I received a call from my bother at delhi, I told about my situation, he said whatever u decide, decide very carefully. I calculated the distance (130 km) and estimate time of arrival. I washed my face, prayed to god and got ready to move.

The road from shamlaji to Udaipur was very dangerous and scary. Shamlaji comes under Gujarat and Udaipur under Rajasthan. Gujarat roads were awesome, super plain, bike was constantly running at 80-85 kph with no speed drop. After I crossed Shamlaji there comes Rajasthan after that roads were bad, and there was a way which passes through mountains/up hills, there were U turns a bit and full up direction. I can see the road was made thru cutting the mountain. All through the way there were very few cars and only trucks were running. Pitch dark night and no bike at all in front or back of me, I was the only alone in my cd-dawn. I can only see there where my HL was throwing light. If something happen in that way, no one will be willing to help in that place I think. There was no chance to go back, I prayed to God please get me reach safely to Udaipur. I still remember the day, that road. Anyone planning to go, I would advise to think twice if you choose go through that way in night.

I reach Udaipur at 11 pm, took hotel there was a man and his son. That guy (son) look at my bike when I arrived there, seeing my JH number he asked from where I am coming? I said Mumbai and his expression was “OMG” and then asked where are you going? I said New Delhi he was like holy shit, completely mad, totally blown off, his brain stopped thinking for a second. He said people do come from Mumbai but in high end bikes like Harley & bullet, but I haven’t seen any guy who have came in a CD-Dawn from Mumbai and going to New Delhi oh my God, hats off to you.

He showed his avenger and said if go nearby local I get tired, how are you coming from Mumbai and can do such a long drive, what’s a magic. I told, it’s not something like that, i like biking and traveling, i belong to biking community, and like doing long rides. He was really really amazed to see me and felt happy.

I was feeling very very sleepy, completely exhausted. I parked my bike inside their reception, safe there. I took bath and went to sleep. Slept for only 4-5 hours, I thought I will leave to Delhi very early however again got late and check out at 6 am.

There were two NH from Udaipur one was NH8 and another NH79. My smart phone was not working, relying on another crap phone GPS, lost my way, ask many people but was told wrong ways but one man showed me the way correctly and took me to NH79 which go through Chittorgarh. The road was not so much good it was all up up and only up until I reach to Ajmer. There was so much up that bike was feeling power loss, had to pull throttle a lot, it reduced my average speed also road was not good enough until I reach Ajmer and got NH8. Now the Jaipur was not very far and from Jaipur to New Delhi it was around 250 kms. Then I started to pull throttle vigorously, hit Udaipur at around 7 pm, almost dark, more 250 kms to go. NH8 was awesome, what a smooth road it was, bike was doing top without any problem and there was no problem driving in the night too, road was so super smooth and place scenery was beautiful, it was fun driving in that road, in night my bike was still running at 70-75 kph, really enjoyed it.

At 8 pm I stopped at Hotel for having dinner after I was about to leave one family came in a car. The man saw my bike with luggage and JH number. He asked where are you going? I said New Delhi. Okay and from where are you coming from? Mumbai I said. Another man shocked! He asked from how much days you are driving? I said I started yesterday, halt at Udaipur, again started morning at 6 am and now here talking to you and in another few hours I will be in Delhi. He said wow, you drove all over with so much luggage, he asked my name and shake hand with me and told good luck. He then shared this conversation with his wife.

I then reach New Delhi at 11 p.m. went straight to my brother's home and finally relaxed a lot.

I used nylon rope to tie my luggage. 3 bags i transferred myself on job from Mumbai to Delhi. The rope was getting loose all time. I have stop more than 10 times during the way to tighten the rope. At one point it really annoyed me.

Such bike trips are always memorable..just make sure that you don't push yourself and your machine to the limits while going solo..and hats off to your efforts.
