  • Goa to Kottayam on 14 Feb 16

Guys I am planning to ride solo from Vasco in Goa to Kottayam starting on 14 Feb at around 1 in the morning. This is the first time I'm riding solo any distance more than 200 kms. I need all kinds of suggestions , tips and info from you veterans. What is the road condition? Can I do the trip at one stretch? Do I need to carry any tools for this stretch? Will I need ors? Etc etc.
I'm planning to leave at one in the morning, route via nh 66 till kannur, then head to thrissur and via nh 47 till alleppey then to changanacherry which is my destination.
Any better route? What all do I need to keep in mind other than the basic stuff. I'm really looking for road conditions in Kerala. I'm confident that nh 66 till mangaluru is good. Not sure about the rest.
All suggestions and tips are welcome.

Well since there isn't any input, I'm going to try to do the whole journey at one stretch, but will make a halt if required, will primarily depend on traffic and road conditions.

Sorry brother, I can't help you with the recent road conditions for the 800+ km trip.
However I'd say take it easy and cover it in 1.5 days at a relaxed pace. Not in one go. Electral, Choco bars, water, medicines, tools, spares and a torch should be carried.

        Ride safe.

          Hi rider,
Happy to see your plan. Hope i can help a little bit. Had been on this route on jan 17th and 19th solo on classic 350. Nothing to worry on this stretch except mangaluru, kasargod region. Some patched tarmac which wasnt much felt cause of my steed. It itself took all hits. Rest of the karanataka highway areas are under widening process but wont effect you in anyways. Thanks for the department.
          Route taken-Calicut-Mangaluru-Batkal-Karwar-Panaji-Baga-Calicut(via same route).
Keep your body hydrated. Cover your body maximum. Avoid talking to strangers. Like i did, lie to them that you belong to a riding group who are enroute
I had taken many Gluco-D candy, cane juice, orange juice- by skiping heavy meals and breakfasts. Use proper riding gears especially gloves which i couldnt get and i lost power on left hand ring finger for almost a week.
After reaching kerala border prepare for the traffic cause of two lane.
Wish someone else could help you on Calicut-Kottayam stretch.
Like Divya bhai said, try to split it into two leg or 1.5.
It took me around 16.5hours to cover 690kms from Baga-Calicut(9am to 1.30am of next day) by keeping 80kms/hr max speed on open road. I dont know which steed you choose to cruise. If its bull you cant go beyond 80kms unless you can bear the vibes. So i think better cut it into two legs.
All the best for your ride, ride safe.

Thanks. I want to try to see where maximum I can reach esp with traffic in Kerala. In any case I'll stop by 5 in the evening wherever I reach. OK what kind of spares would be required for a cbr? The route is pretty much through civilisation.

Thanks rider 11 , u answered most of my doubts. Thanks for answering in so much detail. I have a CBR 250.
My only doubt left is about the route from calicut to Kottayam. Calicut- thrissur- kochi- allepey- Kottayam?
Or stay on nh66 till kochi then continue.
Will post on how it goes
