  • Truckie ride to Spiti / Kinnaur 2016 - 23-27 March. Anyone game?

    Folks,

Good morning. This is nothing but a repeat of http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/tourer/2...12-ex-del.html

Except I am currently riding solo without even the missus for company. The P180 is replaced by a shiny new CBR, so things will be quicker this time around. Of course, if there is some work related crap which comes up at the last moment, I may have to make it a three day kinnaur ride, but there's like 1% chance for that.

There is no plan except to get to Spiti and ride as far as I can. Or explore the himalayas if the route is closed. We'll make something up but it'll be one hell of a ride - that much I will ensure

The plan is for a mostly boringly hectic ride-ride with a fairly disciplined riding day that starts at 5/6am and least possible breaks. This is not a count-the-butterflies or shutterbugs' ride. This is how truckers do it - start early and keep away at it at a reasonable speed - no rash riding.

Don't get me wrong - I like to sightsee leisurely and do bakar as much as the next person , but on my limited schedule I want to cover as much ground as possible, and see as many places - but I won't be stopping every 20 minutes to take a photo or a chai/sutta break!

Show of hands? Drop me a line in case anyone's interested.

    Thread Approved

When i first saw the title, i thought it was a cycle/ hitchhiking ride

Cycle as much as you can, then hitch a ride on a passing truck!

Spiti is very beautiful at that time, often roads can close and disrupt plans, so that is really cutting things fine with the number of days at hand!
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Fully agree on the beauty. I want snowed out vistas.

Wish I had used my student days traveling like your initial interpretation!

Put it this way - if there are fires burning in office, then I will only do Chitkul.

If there are NO fires burning in office, then even if I get stuck (happened twice in 2011, once in badrinath, once in kaladungi), the sky will not fall in one or two days.

^ I have been to Spiti at that time of the year before. Roads are open till Kaza. Ki, Kibber if you are lucky and adventurous. Beyond Kaza towards Losar roads would most probably be closed.

You ride till Kaza and then return via the same route. You cannot go towards Kunzum Pass and onwards to Manali. That will be shut for probably a month more!

Which bike did you ride? What tyres was the bike running on? I need to replace Contigo - not sure whether Pilot Sport Radial or if I should go for the nearest Vertigo / IRC / [...] dual sport tires?

I was riding the Duke 200, with CEAT Vertigos. An awesome combination for that terrain!
