• Pune - Kanyakumari - Rameshwaram Bike Ride Query

Me and my friends are planning this ride in December 2016. We have around 12 days in hand. Our plan is to join west coast from Goa and then follow along the coast till Kanyakumari. Then we will visit Rameshwaram and Dhanushkodi. From there ride till Bengluru, ship bikes via Gati and return to Pune by flight.

Following is the basic plan :-

We are searching for locations along west coast which can be covered along the way. Is the plan okay? Also please suggest locations in Karnataka & Kerala which we can cover.

Apologies for the late reply.

The first 3 days is gonna be very hectic. NH17 is being Widened from Majali to Kundapur and i doubt if it will be complete before dec 2016. Also rushing though some beautiful places is not of much worth. Mangalore-Alapuzha is famous for being traffic prone. The Gati packing office is bang on the Bangalore-Pune Highway. So if you are staying till the bikes are being packed and ready to be loaded and also calculating the amount of time to get to airport and reaching , you can cover a considerable amount of Kms towrads Pune itself Just my thought. If you can extend the ride by a 2-3 days atleast, nothing like it.

P.S: In case you want any help with GATI office, let me know, can help you.

Ideal journey from Pune will be...

Pune - Harihareshwar - Dapoli - Velaneshwar - Ganapatipule - Ratnagiri - Vijaydurg - Malwan - Panjim - Vasco - Karwar - Ankola - Murudeshwar - Bhatkal - Udupi - Mangalore - Kasargod - Payyanur - Kannur - Thalassery - Vadakara - Kozhikode - Ponnani - Ernakulam - Alazpuzha - Karunagapalli - Kollam - Varkala - Trivandrum - Kanyakumari - Kudamkulam - Tiruchendur - Tuticorin - Yervadi - Mandapam - Rameshwaram - Danushkodi - Rameshwaram - Thondi - Vedaranyam/Point Calimere - Nagapattinam - Chidambaram - Cuddalore - Pondicherry - Chennai - Kanchipuram - Krishnagiri - Hosur - Bangalore (alternatively Danushkodi - Rameshwaram - Madurai - Dindigul - Karur - Namakkal - Rasipuram - Salem - Dharmapuri - Krishnagiri - Hosur - Bangalore)

12 days is little aggressive to cover partial West & East corridor, unless you cut down entire NH17 from GA to KL or alternatively plan for Panji - Karwar - Yellapura - Hubli - Dharwad - Chitradurga - Tumkur - Bangalore - Mysore - Chamrajanagara & enter into Kozhikode & follow NH17 sector till Kanyakumari & then head towards Danushkodi & then back to Bangalore. That way, you cover some forest route (Bandipur & Molem if you like to)

There are some wonderful beaches in Maharashtra and you need to spend some time on the way to Goa and Kanyakumari. Don't miss Harihareswar, Dapoli Tarkarli and Ganapathphule

Thanks aargee and phanikar. Goa to Kanyakumari is just bare bones route that I had decided. We are skipping Konkan since we have covered some of the places already and can cover the rest in separate rides. Also getting more leaves is problematic for some of us. So 12-15 day is the max we can have and we wish to explore more of West coast, kerala and tamilnadu and if possible some Karnataka too.

Will study the places suggested by aargee and update the iternary.

As for return leg, I am ready to ride all the way. But others aren't. Another option we are considering is to take a train from Kanyakumari itself and book bikes as luggage with us.

Re: Pune - Kanyakumari - Rameshwaram Bike Ride Query

Hi,
We have done some research and changed our original plan a bit. I finally convinced others to ride all the way back. (PHEW)
So since we are riding back, we thought of adding some location along the way as well. So here's the updated itinerary -
