  • Bangalore to Kerela Road Trip : Need Suggestions

    Guys,

I am planning 3 days Kerela Trip for the 15th Aug long weekend. Just wanted to know about the latest road and weather conditions. Also do let me know if I am missing out on any beautiful place that can be covered on the planned itinerary. Any pointers/Tips would be helpful.

The itinerary planned is as follows:

Start Friday 4p.m. from Bangalore and stay in Udumalpet.
Saturday: Udumalpet->Vagamon (260-300 kms) following the below itenerary.
Sunday: Vagamon to Allepy via Elappara, Kumarakom (150 kms)
Monday: Leave from Allepy around 10-11 a.m.

    Cheers,
    Mystic_Rider

      Hi Mystic Rider,

Recently during the last APRIL and MAY, I had been to Trivandrum From Bengaluru. Although as the purpose was different, I went on a car; but I can share some details about the present road conditions.

In April, I went up through the NH44 till Nagercoil via Hosur -> Dharmapuri -> Salem and so. In your case, if you go by NH 44 you will probably take a detour at Salem. Till salem the road condition is pretty good except the hosur jam in peak hours. I have not been through the mysuru route.

While Coming back, I took the Nh 66 which passed through Tvm -> Kollam -> Allepey -> Thrissur -> Coimbatore -> Salem and then again Nh 44. In the route from alleppey to Salem, some highway 6 lane construction is going on. So that route near thrissur/Palakkad has a little bit of diversions and traffic. So I recommend to avoid that route at night as it is single laned and always has heavy load carriers. Also this route has comparatively less number of options for food and all, But since you are starting from Alleppey, I believe you can set your plans accordingly.

Sorry I won't be able to tell you anything about the others parts(Idukki, Vagamon) that you are touching as I haven't been through that route. Although, they are on my list .

Alappuzha roads are bad now, lots of traffic blocks and road works in most if the places, even the AC road (route towards kuttanad) is in a bad condition now.

The above Schedule is a bit claustrophobic for the route and destinations selected, and that too in rains, in KL during long weekend . You can cut short few places if you don't fancy riding through the night. Alapuzha-Thrissur-Palakkad-Bangalore will be like never ending

Thanks for the inputs Santhosh. I am planning to start on Monday morning (15th Aug) from Allepy and expect to reach bangalore by night. Else I'll have to change plans and start from Palakkad, maybe. How much time it took you to drive down from Allepy to Bangalore?

            Cheers,

Well the plan is to ride in rains and am carrying tent for any mid route breaks and rest. I will be starting Friday afternoon from bangalore. Sat and Sunday am planning to cover approx 300 kms with 10-12 hours of riding. Do you think that also would be diff to manage? Do you suggest any alternate route from Allepy?

            Cheers,
            Mystic Rider

If I remember correctly, I started from Alleppey from arnd 10:30 AM and reached bangalore by 7:30 PM ( including one hour of city traffic pre and post taking the nice road. ). I.E arnd 9 hrs. Plus one or two small stops for tea.

If possible visit Athirapally falls. Its on the way while returning from Allapuzha. Just 60km deviation all total i guess.
