Hello friends,

I have been dreaming of a trip to the NE for an year now after doing a Leh/Ladakh trip last year with my friends. The thrill of the mountains and the escapade of a long relaxing drive to connect with yourself is something that is addictive. Last time around, we hired bikes from Delhi(I was the sole guy on a Duke 200 whereas the others preferred the RE) and had a wonderful journey as we floated like clouds and wafted through the roads with freedom like never before. 14 days, 5 different states, 3000 KM's and memories for a lifetime, it was E.P.I.C.
A li'l background into who I am, I am your quintessential IT guy from Bangalore, the whole of 27 years young waiting for the next adventure to show me a whole new world. This would be most probably my last trip in India for sometime as I'll be moving to US soon and then get tied down with marriage and stuff because of my pestering parents!(No offence, I love them the most). Riding experience is well over ten years, a very sedate rider with no high speed thrills and thankfully zero accidents. Previous rides include but not limited to Bajaj Chetak, Lambretta's, Yezdi's, RE's, Hero Honda's,Yamaha's(Still own a Rx Z 4 speed), and the lot with the baby Ceeber being my first four stroke acquisition.

This time around, my riding buddies have all moved abroad and I don't have a partner in crime. Hell, I'll do it alone is what I have been telling myself for sometime now. In adherence to the quote " A journey of a 1000 miles begin with a single step" , I have acquired a pre-loved 2012 Honda CBR 250 ABS, shod her with new tyres, fixed all the tiny niggles and is just missing a rear luggage rack to haul my stuff around.
I plan to take take off from 2nd Nov to 19th Nov and do a round trip to the oft ignored, unsung and obscure beauty of the North east and possibly into the realms of Bhutan. I should be setting off around Nov 1/2 from Bangalore and plan to reach Siliguri via Chennai-Vizag-Bhubaneswar-Kolkatta and then head off to Tawang from there.

I could probably summarize my queries as follows
1. Is it feasible to explore Sikkim/Bhutan and ride all the way back to Bangalore in 17-18 days(I could stretch by a max of 2-3 days).
2. I have zero experience in these roads, so would like to know if there are better roads to my destination(s)? I don't usually prefer highways as they suck the joy out of riding, I generally love curvy roads with a nice scenic backdrop that keeps the drive engaging and refreshing. I'am not much of a photo guy and seldom click with memories etched in my mind rather than a solid state device.
3. I would carry the basic spares(Cables, spark plug, Std tool kit, T/L puncture kit) with my assumption that the ceeber is a thoroughbred reliable tourer(Ruled out the D390 because I still can't come to terms with the reliability part of it,esp in areas where you don't have SVC access). Hopefully my two bottles of Ride On puncture sealant would have arrived from US by that time, so that can take pretty good care of the punctures. Any specific parts advised on such a long trip?
4. On a budget, I am not looking to unwind at star hotels and would like to know of good places to halt for the night which doesn't burn a hole in my pocket.
5. I haven't seen many luggage racks around for the CBR and would like some guidance to where I can fabricate a custom one for my requirements in Bangalore. Any pointer to a off-the-shelf one/Other examples would so just fine.
6. I haven't done such a long solo drive and would really be encouraged if someone else can join in with their own ride(Itinerary can be tweaked) from Bangalore or else where en-route.
Do PM me if any of you guys are interested and we can work something out.

Ride Safe,
Roomy

Hi roomy! Awesome to hear a fellow ceeber owner taking time off to explore! Trust me, the baby ceeber can handle a whole lot of abuse! Regarding a luggage rack, i'd ask you to look at the Viaterra Claw (saddle bag). I've been using it for the past couple of years, and have no complaints! It feels like it's custom made for the ceeber. It'll also hold enough stiff for a month, along with a tent/tripod. You could also look at tank bags for storing stuff that you will constantly pull out. To explore the most and get the best out of the trip, I'd advise you to extend the trip to 30 days min. Otherwise, it would feel very monotonous, and all you'd be doing is riding for those 18 days... Take time to relax and enjoy the surroundings, and take in every breath of air. @phanikar ji is THE person to ask for a route plan! He will guide you through some of the most amazing roads! (Personal experience )

Parts:
1. Front brake lever
2. Clutch lever
3. Foot pegs
4. Rear brake lever
5. Gear shift apparatus

Add these parts to the list, as they are most prone to damage and might delay you in case of non availability locally.

All the very best on your trip, and keep us posted! Ride safe brother!

I already owe you one as you pointed me to the right place for my tyres! Still awaiting the front 110/70 FC1 though. I had plans on the Claw and now that you vouch for it, I think I can safely go ahead with that purchase. Also, adding your list to my list of spares.

I am looking to supplement my lights with a a pair of spot LED's similar to how @Kiran.jagtap has mounted them below the headlight. I know the market is flooded with fake Cree's and the originals are costing a bomb here, so can anyone direct to a decent pair that has good focus and throw of say 150 mts. I am looking for a pair that doesn't emit pure white light(Color temp between 3500-4500K) as I don't want to blind oncoming traffic and also they are pretty much useless in the rain/fog.

I hear you about the crees... Unfortunately for me, I've tasted Denali's, and nothing else even comes close to it! If you can afford it, go for the Denali D2, it's a direct fit for the CBR. (Planning for a pair myself, sometime in the future.) Otherwise, upgrade your headlight to Philips extremevision, they are worth it. Buy a pair so you can replace it when one goes kaput.

I've also seen a few LED lights on bullets back in Chennai, that were pretty ok'ish, and threw light to about 30 mtrs in front. Saw them at Velavan motors in Chennai. Not sure about their availability in bangalore yet. Hope this helps!

re: Bangalore- Pushkar and back (Itinerary and partner)

A small update(Actually major)

Due to the time constraint and the fact that I am going solo, I have decide to change my trip to Pushkar as the mela coincides with the timing of my trip. This route is easier, shorter and less riskier for a solo rider when compared to the hostile tough terrains of the NE.
The Monk, Could you please update the thread title accordingly?

I am getting inclined towards a saddle bag(Rynox Nomad) rather than a tail bag as I would want to add some luggage(An average sized backpack) on top of the bags which I feel is a tough task on the Viaterra Claw. Opinions welcome.
I have shortlisted these lights from Amazon and would be ordering it this weekend as I am waiting for the CC cycle to change. Also getting a pair of EBC semi sintered pads from UK as I have to replace my brake pads before my trip.

Sorry to join the party late, Apologies.

Hello Roomy, nice to see you trip plan. Well, would like to know what is your tentative plan because you inquired about Bhutan/Sikkim and then you mentioned Tawang. you will be drop dead tired by the time you complete all there , or even 2 for that matter.

In case you have a time restriction, would suggest you ship the bike to Siliguri(Not Kolkata), fly down and start the ride. Chennai to Siliguri is totally uneventful boring roads, unless you decide to halt at puri/ somewhere for a break. Siliguri to Siliguri or Siliguri to Guwahati if you consider, then may be you can do it in 20-22 days, peacefully that is. There is no point rushing through things when you are in that part of the country. Also since you mentioned Nov, Keep a tab on the weather. If you have a tentative plan(Day wise) , people can pitch in with some inputs.

Re: Bangalore- Pushkar and back (Itinerary and partner)

I should be the one to apologize. I have changed my plans in the interest of time and leisure as all the suggestions I have received are pointing that it's going to be a mighty hard squeeze of my schedule to manage all of the places in such a short time.
I have now re-routed myself to the town of Pushkar where I plan to spend a few days in the company of camels, people and the free spirit of a tourer. I have updated the title accordingly.

The plan now is to start from Bangalore around Nov 1st and reach Pushkar around 6/7 with a stopover in Mumbai for a day. With this plan, I do not plan to be on the road for more than 8 hours a day and I get time to enjoy the places, explore areas of intrigue and best of all stay stress free.
