Length of this segment :- Around 587 km

Karnataka

Talapady ---> Mangalore ---> Suratkal ---> Udupi ---> Kundapura ---> Bhatkal ---> Honavar ---> Karwar.

Length of the segment :- Around 300 km.

Goa

Vyshakh, nice plan you've got there buddy. I see you are covering the coastal route. I dont know the entire route, although I've been around Calicut, Mangalore and Goa. Let me share with you what I can

1)How long it'll take to complete,? Depends on how much you are willing to ride in a day and how many places you see.
2) Places to see
*Mahe has this awesome white sand beaches. They are very clean and could land up some good photos for the bike and yourself. And watching the sunset here should be enjoyable.
* Calicut is known and famous for the food. Delicious food is cheap here. What I mean to say is, if you mean to close your first day in or near Calicut, the options are excellent.
*Murudeshwar, located after Bhatkal, is an excellent must-visit temple. With a huge statue of Murdeshwara, Lord Shiva, the temple stands right next to the ocean. You will not regret going here.
*Gokarna has some nice watersports in 2 or 3 of its beaches, which isn't as good as Goa's but the atmosphere is nice and there's lesser crowd.
*Dudhsagar falls, about 50 kms from Margoa, is a must for anyone visiting Goa, and this is the right season too, until March. The falls is magnificent, you could trek to the falls if you enjoy trekking.
*Lamgau Caves. Great place to visit if you can spend 1-2 hrs, but I would say it's worth it. The caves are very old and give you the "Temple Run" feel. :P
*Watersports in Goa is the best, and Calangute beach is a nice choice for those who would love to indulge in jetskis, parasailing, etc

This plan could take anywhere between 5-7 days as you have told and again, I say, it depends how long you wish to ride and places you wish to see on the way. And it's all about the ride

Take rest stops when you are on long stretches. Drink a lot of water. Wear the right gear.!
Ride safe,
Cheers,
SV

Don't know if it's too late to post this but be very, very, VERY careful when you're riding in the Kasaragod-Talapady strecth. Drivers absolutely lack road manners and they won't hesitate in running you over to get the right of way on that narrow stretch of road, especially the absent minded Kerala SRTC drivers who behave so meek when they're on the other side of the border but transform into full-fledged devils once they cross the border checkpost.

Coming to the thou-shalt-not-miss things, Thalassery Biriyani at any good hotel(Paris Hotel is excellent) in Thalassery/Tellicherry, the Bekal Fort at Kasaragod, Someshwara beach at Ullal(a few kilometers off the highway, so you might give this one a miss), Panambur beach at Mangalore, Malpe beach at Udupi(this one gives all the Goan beaches a run for their money), Maravanthe(highway runs parallel to the sea, can take a prolonged break here and have tender coconut water at one of the shacks), Om and Kudle beach at Gokarna and a few other beaches as well. If you want to go to someviewpoints, then there's Ottinenene viewpoint at Byndoor and the Honnavar Bridge viewpoint from where you can see the engineering marvel of Konkan Railway in the form of three magnificent bridges guiding trains over the massive Sharavati river.

Re: Trivandrum to goa ride

I hope it's not late to reply . I have been through this entire stretch in Jan 2017 but I have done it in reverse direction. Goa -> Kanyakumari.
I did it in segments like -
1. Goa -> Marvanthe
Road till Karnataka are good. Road widening is going on in Karnataka in multiple places. So loads of diversions and bad patches. Some completed patches are very good but they don't last long. :P. We left at around 8.30pm from Ponda, Goa and reached Marvanthe at around 7pm.
2. Marvanthe -> Kannur
Highway from Marvanthe till Kerala border is good. You can maintain good speeds. The moment you enter in Kerala it becomes a two lane road with no divider. We left from Marvanthe 6.30am and reached Kannur at 8.30pm.
3. Kannur -> Allepy/Alappuza
This patch is not better than the earlier one. Few patches are proper highway (4 lanes, divider) but near Aleppy road is very worst. Started from Kannur at 7am and reached Aleppy at around 10.00pm.
4. Aleppy -> Kanyakuamri
Few patches are under renovation with some offroading. Rest is okay. We left at around 12.30pm from Kumarkom and were near trivendrum at around 7pm.
