  • Planning a ride to Almora.

    Hi all,
Me and my friends are planning a 3 day ride to Almora the coming weekend - 11th - 13th feb. Would appreciate any kind of information related to road conditions, weather, places to visit.

    Query Approved

The Delhi to Nainital section is a bit bad. Once you get to the hills its like normal hill roads. Though Almora doesn't have much of interest. I would suggest moving a bit further up to Binsar or something
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Thanx for the update friend. I guess we will have to leave early in the morning then.
We are just exited about the ride in hills and snow and will visit few temples and don't expect anything else than pure natural beauty and less people; we love 'akelapan' and lazy strolls on hilly roads. Probably would watch a movie, have beer, lay doen in snow or riverside/lake maybe. We have already been to commercialised places like nainital, manali, shimla, etc. We were actually looking for an offbeat place where we would get decent hotel and won't starve when we came across this place. The fact that very few people visit the place attracted us.
One thing we are really concerned about is the roads should not be slippary and unrideable/blocked in case of an unfortunate snowfall.
BTW we will ride to a friend's house in moradabad (about 180 kmts from delhi and right on the way to the final destination) after finishing our office work on friday evening itself.

Then Almora is the wrong place to go. It is a city. A dirty hill city! If you want to just chill and do nothing with akelapan, then check out Dinapani a few kilometres beyond Almora. Re: Planning a ride to Almora.

If you are looking for snow, there isn't any snow at this time in Almora. You'll need to go deeper/higher in the hills.

Now Showing: K2K 9000Km of Solo Bliss

You were right. After spending one day @ KMVN almora, we moved to KMVN deenapani and the latter was great!

Yes,after reaching there, locals told us that snowfall was very limited this year so no snow . Anyways we enjoyed a lot, specially the newly built Nainital-Kaladungi road.

Re: Planning a ride to Almora.

Yes, we followed Google maps.... Onward journey was via Moradabad, Rudrapur, Haldwani and return was via Nainital, Kaladhungi, Rampur.... I suggest you take the latter route for onward and return journey. Avoid riding after dark in hills and keep an hour of buffer time for Nainital to Almora journey as road construction work is going on.
Here is a video that we made on this trip which might help you get an idea of road conditions:
