  • Road Trip to Bhutan

    Hi, It is from a long time I am waiting to do a road-trip with good amount of miles being covered. Getting away from the busy routine is often becoming the biggest trouble in planning. Finally I have listened to the bug within me and decided to head towards Bhutan with my RE TBTS 350.

    Tentative travel plan could be by third week of March.

    I would appreciate if the members could share their experiences, mainly the Dos and Don'ts and the essentials to be carried.

    Note - I have been to Bhutan a couple of times but by means of public transportation.

    Thanks.

    Query Approved

    Do share your tentative plan and ask specific questions. Also go through the Bhutan travelogues on the forum.
    Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

    Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

      Re: Road Trip to Bhutan

      Trip starts from Chennai, India to Thimphu, Bhutan.
      Two bikes; RE TBTS 350 and Duke 200.

      This trip is mainly for the biking endurance and not much to explore the country (I had been there more than once but by public transport).
      I am used to continuous driving covering long distance in a single day.

      I would be planning it for 15 days and may have couple of days for buffer to cover the unplanned delays.

      Here goes the plan. I would have my queries alongside the itinerary.

      First leg :
      Chennai - Nellore - Ongole - Guntur - Vijayawada - Rajahmundry --> 608 Km
      Q : Road condition and alternate route if any.

      Second leg :
      Rajahmundry - Annavaram - Vishakapatnam - Srikakulam - Brahmapur - Bhubaneswar - Cuttack --> 646 Km
      Q : Road condition and alternate route if any.

      Third leg :
      Cuttack - Bhadrak - Balasore - Udaynarayanpur - Burdwan - Farakka --> 652 Km
      Q : Suggest if there are some alternate routes with better road conditions
      Q : Once we cross Udaynarayanpur or Burdwan, came across another route via Dumka which is said to be active with Maoists presence.

      Fourth leg :
      Farakka - Raiganj - Islampur - Siliguri - Jaigaon --> 415 Km
      Q : Suggest if there are some alternate routes with better road conditions

      Fifth leg : (After obtaining permit for self and the vehicle)
      Jaigaon/Pheuntsholing - Thimphu --> 165 Km

      We can try extending the itinerary for one more day. I know that the distance covered per day is more and the road conditions may not favor us. We have a crunch with respect to the time frame and hence the tight schedule.

      Support and guidance from fellow XBHPians would help a lot.
