  • First bike trip (Chennai to Kumbakonam)

Hornet 160r is my first bike. Did 12k on Odo. I am using it only to commute 10 km distance to office (Think about 12000 kms of office going and small commuting ) and I am aching to do a long trip.
Next month I have to visit home town. I plan to ditch train and ride all the way to home. I am little wary about do's and dont's.

Chennai to Kumbakonam is roughly 300 kms in any sane route. I believe tindivanam-villupuram-Ulundurpet route will be more biker friendly. I request People familiar with this route to share their thoughts.

I did some basic preps like,
-Changed to Motul 10W30 semi synthetic.
    -Changed air filter.
-Changed that awful stock head lamp.

Will check tyres and adjust/lube chain before starting.

Is there any thing I am missing as a beginner ?

    Thanks in advance !!

      1. Wear Riding gear
      2. Being summer instead going on highways try state ways at least you get tree cover. till ulunderpet you take highway and take left at the vikrawandi toll that is single road but you get some tree cover in between
      3. Start early in the morning so that you can cover more distance before sun goes up and you wont feel fatigued.
      4. Get hydrated
      Have confidence. all the best.

I did Vikravandi-Panrutti road few years ago. Be careful and watch out for potholes on this road. I am not sure about road condition now.

A selfish trip to Puthur Jayaram Mess

The road conditions are pathetic now in the Vikravandi route. Yesterday I took my dominar along this route, I could see a lot of potholes and it is not patched. Further rains have worsened the potholes. So it is not recommended to take this route. It is better to take the ulundurpet road to Kumbakonam.
