• Inputs needed: Solo bike trip from Bangalore to West Bengal

Hi All,

I am planning to do a Bangalore to West benagl solo bike ride this weekend. mods: Please move this thread to the correct sub forum if this is not the one.

The planned route:
<iframe src="https://www.google.com/maps/embed?pb=!1m28!1m12!1m3!1d7768206.136188939!2d77.9 9334790197076!3d18.068341570631645!2m3!1f0!2f0!3f0 !3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!4m13!3e6!4m5!1s0x3bae1159 dec18331%3A0xf38f2fa32d83c761!2sKaveri+Apartments% 2C+4th+Main+Rd%2C+GM+Palya%2C+C+V+Raman+Nagar%2C+B angalore%2C+Karnataka%2C+India!3m2!1d12.9745134999 99999!2d77.6652897!4m5!1s0x39f7af39cffec8eb%3A0xc1 f89781aa4450!2sKatjuridanga+Bus+Stop%2C+National+H ighway+60A%2C+Katjuridanga%2C+Bankura%2C+West+Beng al+722101!3m2!1d23.2466448!2d87.0393294!5e0!3m2!1s en!2sin!4v1494481186606" width="600" height="450" frameborder="0" style="border:0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

The tools:
1. Bike -> Ninja 650 (last service done around 5k kms back). All docs clear.
2. GPS -> My phone
3. Luggage -> Saddle bags (viaterra)
4. Ridding gear -> Tourmaster jacket and pant
5. Would be carrying 2 bottles of engine oil and plan to change the engine oil after reaching destination (2k kms)

Till date I have done trips with my wifey as pillion and the largest distance covered was some 550kms one way.
What I am skeptical about is riding in the summer heat. I plan to make the night stop at Vizag (some 1000kms from Bangalore). Has anyone toured around in the summer heat? If yes, what are the precautions that I need to take? Is it a good idea to travel such distances in the summer heat?

Any other precautions that I need to take while travelling through this route?

It is going to be hot!

But there is no reason why you cannot/ should not do it Bikers are not known to do smart things, else we would all be sitting in the comfort and safety of a car!

Whatever planning you did for your 550 km ride will suffice for a 2000 km ride as well. Just remember to stop frequently for rest and rehydration.

Also try leaving very early in the morning. Don't ride in the afternoon, stop at a dhaba for lunch, spend a couple of hours (or more) at the dhaba when the sun is the strongest and then try to make up as much time as possible before nightfall. An early morning start is essential. Keep an eye on bodily and motorcycle fluids.

Relax and have a good time
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

despite us riders sometimes being more adventurous and experimental than we ought to, i'd really suggest not to ride during the day time as long as the sun is out (given the sheer power of sunlight and high temperatures in most of india right from even just 8-9AM), particularly if you have even a mild tendency to catch headaches (and consequent fatigue) under just a moderate exposure to sunlight and high temperatures... in fact i think even those who generally don't catch headaches under sunlight should refrain from riding under such long exposure to it...if you catch such a headache, you won't feel any fun, and the fatigue can be dangerous even (in terms of riding focus, energy, etc)..

if you can't postpone this long ride by a few months, i'd suggest perhaps considering overnight rides till early morning, then sleeping the daytime off somewhere and then start in the next evening...that is, if you don't dislike night rides..sure you'll have to ride slower than you would in the day, but it might be more fun (assuming good enough roads etc), traffic will also be substantially less and will certainly save you from the brutal heat and its consequences.

I dont prefer riding at night due to lots of risk involved.
