    Query Approved

Search through the forum, there are tons of travelogues with lots of information about Spiti.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Re: Road trip to Spiti Valley

Good to you see you guys going to such an amazing and calm place. Some tips I would like to give:

              1. Watch out for the weather on the internet. I found 3-4 days prediction by popular websites are very accurate.
              2. Do not go without basic toolkit and bike parts and puncture repair kit, Never.
              3. Get some good offload tyres for the ride to stay safe in the valley.
              4. Start early and reach early to avoid water crossings and you will have time to enjoy the valley.
              5. Try to stay in gov owned guest houses like PWD rest house. Try to book some accommodation in Kaza to avoid hassle, not mandatory though.
              6. Do not miss the Chandratal lake if planning to cover Kunzum either while starting or completing the trip.
              7. It looks best to me to start from Shimla side and return from Rohtang/Manali if planning to do circuit.
              8. Include Sangla and Chitkul if you guys have time. Its hardly matter of 50kms of detour.
              9. Do not forget to carry rain covers for your luggage and for yourself. Getting wet in single digit temperature may put you in serious trouble.
              10. Carry a BSNL SIM. The mobile signals will vanish in most of the Spiti valley and so maps. If you have any Nokia Lumia phone, download the offline maps and forget the network.

Let us know if you have any specific question.

Last but not the least, respect the mother nature and do not cross your limits on the hills. Keep the hills clean and beautiful.
              Enjoy and ride safe
              All the best.

Hey man, thanks a lot for the info! About the offroad tyres, anything specific in mind?I was planning on getting the CEAT Vertigos installed but they are no longer in production,or so I've heard!A friend of mine suggested going for a pair of RALCOs.

Off road basically refers to paths that can't really qualify as roads! No tarmac! So tyres that can take such beating are the off road ones.

You can try this if Vertigo is not available. I myself used them thrice in Spiti and once in Ladakh and Sach pass. They do the job well.

A kinda block pattern tyres to kinda hold the off road. Something like I pointed out above.

I read somewhere that the Siracs that are available now aren't of a good quality.Any other good options out there?
