• Solo ride from Delhi to Kolkata

Hi all fellow xBHPians
I am planning a solo ride from Delhi to Kolkata to be done this month. It is to be done in two days that is 22-23 July. According to Google it is 24 hour ride and I'll add 6-8 hour for rest to continue and complete rest of journey next day. I want to know if someone has accomplished this feat recently and is it safe to go solo? I'll be greatful for all the guidance and tips.
Thanks

Query Approved

Doing it is no problem. It depends on the rider and a reasonably powerful bike!

Take the Delhi Lucknow Expressway. From Lucknow go to Allahabad via Raibareilly. Allahabad to Varanasi.

Next day along the GQ to Kolkata.

Doable. Yes. Tiring. Yes.

I don't think recently, but i remember Mik riding to Kolkata multiple times.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Re: Solo ride from Delhi to Kolkata

Hi Thread Starter - my last ride on the circuit was in 2014 so no updated info here.
As far as safety is concerned, take the expressways at daylight. The Jharkhand stretch too at day-light is recommended. Do watch out for the cows coming home in case you are traversing jharkhand in the evening as the highway makes its way through small villages.
Two days are fine for the ride for a early morning to late evening ride. Just start early and drop anchor at one of the prominent places(allahabad/varanasi).
2017 update only for Bengal:
While entering Bengal, till Durgapur you can expect some busy traffic, jaywalking and diversions for 6 laning and flyovers.
Take the newly built panagarh bypass which saves a lot of time. Post that its pristine.

Thanks Monk and Mik.
I will be going on GixxerSF and according to gmaps it shows there is NH 19 till Kolkata. I recently returned from Varanasi. Road through raibarelly is single road and am not really willing to go through that road. It is one road without diversion and goes through many towns and villages takes 7-8 hours from Lucknow to Varanasi. I want to reach Varanasi by end of day. Will start at 3 am.
This way I'll have 15-17 hours to ride before rest.
I witnessed 3 armed guys fleeing from a bank after some incident near Varanasi railway station. They were just the beside car I was sitting. I hope I don't have to be victim or witness again on my way to Kolkata again.

In 2014, we didn't have the lucknow expressway so had taken the Delhi-Greater Noida Expressway-Agra-Kanpur-Allahabad road. That road is fine too. Just need to avoid any night-time riding. The GN expressway and the Agra to kanpur stretch can be a bit spooky at night :-)
Do the usual checks - have the puncture repair kit and chain spray.
Keep some vital information of different places in paper format in case the phone dies.
Be disciplined, sorted and keep a cool head at all times. Its an engaging two day ride and enjoy it to the fullest!
