Would like to know some of crucial info regarding entering Nepal by road, on a bike. There is very less informative thread, travelogue in this forum. I request you people to donate/share your valuable time and information which you guys have about riding in Nepal.
1)Which is the best border (fastest and safest routes) to enter Nepal for bikers with good border stay, easier custom checking, permit issue etc. (we are coming from Karnataka, Managaluru). Will they allow solo riders with pillion occupant (female)?
2)What is the procedure to get permission to enter Nepal for an Indian and India registered private vehicle (white board). Is it possible to get it ourselves without any agent/bribe (if any)?
3)Presently how many days of route permission can be issued by Nepal for Indians? What are the valid documents needed for getting the same?
4)Do they give separate number plates for Indian vehicles?
5)Is a guide mandatory for two-wheelers as well?
6)Is there any time card/slip in some regions (to avoid over speeding and delays that occur because of tourists) for two-wheelers also?
7)Any insurance providers near by the border to get insurance for bike and riders?
8)Do they only accept Indian currency of 100 and below only? (500 and 2,000 notes are banned it seems)
9)What are the options available to exchange currency in Nepal?
10)I am planning to ride towards lower Mustang and upper Mustang also (with pillion). How much it will cost for upper Mustang to get that special permit? What is the best way to get that?
Please add info which I may have missed out to ask here.
Thank you.
