    Need help.

Which route to take from Rameshwaram to Bangalore???
I'll be doing it in 1 day so looking for distances not more than 600 kms.

    Currently I have selected

    Rameshwaram - Panikulam (NH 49)
    Panikulam- Pudukkottai-Tiruchirapalli (NH 210)
Cross Kollidam River on NH 49 after Tiruchirapalli and then turn left for Namakkal (SH 25)
    Namakkal - Salem - Krishnagiri - Hosur - Bengaluru (NH 7)

    Total 590

How are the roads through this route? Any better option???
Any place between rameshwarm and Tiruchirapalli where we can stay in the previous night to reduce the distance for this day?

I would say better to head to Madurai through NH49 and from there NH7 all the way, NH7 is excellent but I have only travelled till Salem from Bangalore in it. It's 610 km ride but should be easy on GQ

kudremukh to agumbe is not direct route!, you have to either go to sringeri side and then go or you have to hit karkala and goto hebri and then climb up.

About accomodation in Agumbe, it's not a big town and last time i went there were no lodges, head up to theerthahalli for staying.

              Thanks Darthveda

Actually i am planning to do hassan-chikmagalur-mullaingiri-chikmagalur-aldur-agumbe and then to Karwar & goa
              (9 days trip starting from Coimbatore-> Karnataka-> goa-> Kerala-> Coimbatore-> Bangalore.)

I have some doubts on the following route:
Agumbe ->honavar->Karwar via shimoga and badra wildife sanctuary.
hows the road condition? Is it scenic? Is it safe? Will it rain in these areas during december?
Though it is more in distance than Agumbe->udupi->murusdeshwar-> gokarna -> karwar. I think gumbe ->honavar->Karwar via shimoga and badra wildife sanctuary will be fun and scenic.

              Please advice.

Bangalore to Goa 17-21st sept 09.
                around 12-14 bikes .

                bangalore-hubli-yellapur-ankola-karwar-goa

                Bangalore-c'durga-200kms ,
Road until u reach nelamangala is ok ok , lots of diversions
                From nelamangala-tumkur-good
5-10kms gettin out of tumkur is bad
                there to c'durga-excellent

                C'durga-haveri- bad roads , diversions , potholes , slush

                haveri-hubli- excellent

                hubli-yellapur(65kms) good
yellapur-ankola- pretty good with odd potholes
12kms before ankola , potholes start

ankola-karwar-30 kms NH 17 is in pretty bad state.
                not too bad . Doable.

                Karwar till Goa wonderful

If u plan to take the route from shimoga-goa
the kumta-karwar is bad , u ll lose a lot of time

NH 17 is in bad condition.

                  hey santoosh,
                  thanks for the update.

I want to know your opinion on the following route (just looking at ways to avoid the chitradurga - haveri route which i heard is horrible for car drive).

                  Bangalore-tumkur-sira-chitradurga-bhadravati-shimoga-sagar-yellapur-ankola-karwar-south goa (663kms)

Since the ankola-karwar stretch is pretty bad. How about yellapur to karwar via kaiga (SH6)?

^ That is a good route. But your average speed will drop slightly compared to the GQ stretch. I hope you are talking about the Sagar-Siddapur-Sirsi-Yellapur route, because it is a beautiful stretch. Alternately, if on a bike, take the GQ till Bankapur (yes, past the bad stretches till Haveri), take a left and go to Yellapur via Mundgod. Cars cannot travel on this route, hence very very less traffic, fantastic country roads and beautiful scenery as well.

                      hey rossiter,

                      thanks for the quick update.
Unfortunatly, my biking days are behind me... will be driving down in my 1985 Audi80, hence asking for the best route (read good roads) and not too much time (anything upto 10-11hrs is acceptable)

I somehow feel that we shouldn bother whether its a bike or a car .
We need to give room for any possible making offtopic which makes sense.

when a mobile phone thread and jokes thread exists :-D
We can accomodate a car query too

the stretch between ankola-karwar is apparently very bad. Can anyone throw light on SH6 yellapur to karwar via Kaiga??
