  • Chennai-Mumbai Solo ride

    So,finally my own thread

Before i begin i'll tell you a little bit about myself. And you need to read not because i am a celebrity, but because it'll only help you give me better suggestions.
    ill keep it short.

    Part 1
im 22.Studying in Chennai.First 2 wheeler was a kinetic honda bought without tellin my folks.rode it for a couple of months.Managed to convince dad for a second hand P180.got drunk but wore a helmet.slept while riding.accident.scars.

    Part 2
    A pulsar 220 dtsi.Xbhp happened.Now almost 10K kays in about 4 months old.

    Here it goes,
Im planning to do a solo chennai-mumbai ride starting on the 28th of dec. Will reach by 29th.stay there for 2 weeks and then ride back by the 12th of Jan.

My plan as of now thanks to alot of members -

    start from chennai by 5am

    Tambaram - Guindy - Porur - Ponamalee - Vellore - Krishnagiri - Hosur - Bangalore

    chennai to blore 350kms
at an average speed of 80kmph reach blore by 11am

Here is the route i'll be taking :-

    blr-nelamangala(40kms) bad roads
    nelamangala-tumkur 40 kms
    tumkur-sira 50 kms
    sira-chitradurga 60 kms
    chitradurgadurga-ranibennur reach by 6 30pm-haveri
127 kms of incomplete 4 lane road.with dust and diversions. Can still do 110.

    haveri-hubli 64 kms
    reach hubli by 7pm
    spend night in hubli.

    600kms to go for mumbai

    Start early morning by 7am

    hubli-dharwad 40 kms
    dharwad-belgaum 60 kms
    belgaum-nippani 50kms
    nippani-kolhapur 50 kms
    kolhapur-karad ~60kms
    karad-satara ~60kms

    Have lunch at Satara

    satara-Pune 120 kms
    pune-navi mumbai 160kms

    Route from pune to mumbai:-
Pune > *avoid expressway* Lonavala *avoid expressway* > Khandala > take expressway > take khopoli bypass > go straight on to Panvel road > Avoid Panvel City road, Take JNPT bypass > chit chat with cops > Take Left to Panvel > Straigh to Vashi > Navi Mumbai
    reach mumbai by 7pm

I have not done more than 300-400 kms in a day.So i am like a baby tourer.
Had a hard time convincing my folks and a harder time convincing my girl. They think a flight is more fun

Now i request all senior members who are reading this and have been on this route to give me some more tips.
If this ride goes on well,i might join another chennai xbhp member, floydanubhav for a try at the saddle sore+bun burner.

    Any comments would be helpful.

@mods- If you are of the opinion that its too early to start a thread like this then ill re post later maybe like 2 days before i leave.Once i reach, ill convert it into a photo feature.Thank you.

Instead of coming to Guindy, why don't you take the Tambaram bypass? Since you are starting at 5am, there shouldn't be any concern. The bypass starts at Irumbiliyur bridge and ends at NH-4 junction at Madhuravoyal. Getting in to Porur, Ponamallee will only add to your riding time. All you have to do is take the bypass at Tambaram, turn left at Madhuravoyal junction and ride straight to Bangalore.

Your route is spot-on. Stay at The Hans hotel in Hubli if there are 2 of you - they are very good with bike parking if you make a scene I park my MT-01 there whenever I ride around. Will be riding to Chennai next week from Mumbai.

The best tips I can give you:

        - No need to exceed 100kph. You will easily average 70kph if you stay at or around 100kph through the trip.

        - Apply Nivea cream to your bottom - saddle-sore is a thing of the past!
        - Drink water with electral or pack gatorade. Plain water will cause dizziness over a long ride due to lack of salts.
        - Don't over-eat - puts you to sleep

        You will not be forgotten...RIP

Wow!. Something I didn't know... Used it for a short tour lately everywhere except the Bum'

          @anant
I second the catch Irumbaliyur-take-right route. Since you live in east tambaram (I live in chitlapakkam, so we neighbours ), it is pretty near.

You can also reach the NH via Mudichur-Manimangalam which joins Sriperambudur. (Drastically shortens the trip, but am not sure about the roads)

Lastly, Good luck! (Hoping to meetup sometime)
