  • FZ16 ride from Pune to Bangalore

    Hello friends,

I am planning to move from Pune to Bangalore. I have a FZ16 as my machine which 7-8 months old. Now, I think of going in my bike to bangalore.

I am not sure if this is a good idea, but I would like to give a try.
So guys, can you please let me know the needs and requirements and any suggestions so that the ride would be smooth.

Also, please suggest the best way to go there.
I have not done too long rides yet anytime. Maximum would be from Pune to Mumbai and back, which is 300 odd kms.

Let me also know the necessary modifications I need to do for the bike and if I need to carry anything with me.
Oh yeah, forgot to mention. Me going there all alone. So, is this a good idea?

Thanks for all the support you guys provide.

If you are doing this first time and your not use to doing long rides would suggest take it easy and ride at your own pace . Even if you take 20 hrs to complete it its fine . Some stretches get too boring you might fall asleep. so just make sure u have enough sleep before the ride.

Service the bike few days before the ride and make sure all the nuts and bolts are tight.

      carry the following .
      1. puncture repair kit .
      2. Accelerator cable
      3. Clutch cable .
      4. Chain lube
      5. Some basic first aid.
      6. water glucon d

Rest its just one straight road . Its do able . Just take a print of a map. watch out for diversions .

      Ride safe. all the best

Leave Pune early. Early the better as you bypass traffic of the small towns enroute (even though all the towns have flyovers).
Pune - Bangalore is 830-840km. NH4 all the way. U dont need a map. Good markings enroute.
Pune to Haveri, around 510-515km is a bliss. Best and fastest stretch though is between Kolhapur and Hubli.

To start with, keep 80-85 on the speedo. It will chilly early morning so do stop for breaks. I would suggest the first one, 65km away, before the start of the Kambhatki ghats (chai shops).
Mcdonalds just after Kolhapur, on the right, around 245km from Pune is another good stop.
Bad roads are between Haveri and Chitradurga. In all, you would need around 12.5 to 13 riding hours. Add in time for breaks / fuel / food. If you are not comfy with long drives, take a night halt at say Hubli, 430-440km from Pune. All the best!

          Thanks for the suggestion guys.

One question more. How safe is it on the roads. Since am going alone, I am most concerned about that.

Safe in the sense, not the bike. About the people. Do I need to pass through villages and the people might turn odd. So, just thinking.

I have done in 2 times now and it's ABSOLUTELY safe.

Both the times I took about 20 hours as I was going easy. Take your time. RELAX and do it.... it's as safe as going from Bombay to Pune.
There are plenty of shops (read towns) on the road every few kilometers and this is by far the best road to drive on.

I am sure you would love this one. Just don't think too much about it and take it easy.
Start early on Saturday morning from Pune. Take a 15-30 mins break every 100 kilometers. drive till sunset and take a break wherever you are. There are plenty of road side dhabas and hotels.

Start again on Sunday early morning and you are there in bangalore on Sunday evening.

All the best ... enjoy the ride ....

I don't know anything about long distance riding. However, I would suggest you halt at Hubli. That way you can take your time leaving Pune too.

                  All the best

. Dont remove your mirrors n keep looking at it now n then coz there will be lot of fast cars overtaking you and you cant hear them honking
. Avoid night riding coz there will be lot of broken down vehicles without any signals
                    . it is totally safe
. make a stay in hubli if u intend to do it slowly or else leave pune early say
3 or 4 in the morning and make it to blr by the night with fewer stops
. carry simple tools like screw drivers n if possible buy those instant puncture repair cans it can be handy
. use gloves , riding jacket , protective shoes n of course helmet

How much time do you have with you to ride?
Do you have 2 days for the ride?

The day is short now and the nights are longer. how comfortable are you riding at night? (I don't mean all night, a few hours in darkness)..

Since you've never done this route before it's better you split the ride for 2 days.. take it easy, take a lot of breaks .. have fun along the way rather than belt your way down to Blr..

Hubli, Dharwad is almost mid point so, halt there at night.. lots of cheap accomo. at Old Hubli bus stand..

The Pune-Hubli half is more enjoyable than the Hubli-Bangalore half.. so, at any cost ensure that you do hubli-blr during day light since its your first ride this side.. lonely boring roads.. and Ranebennur town which won't have a bypass..

                      Enough pointers.. have fun..

I have enough time in hand. Am actually shifting from Pune to Bangalore permanently. So, no hurry. I can even take 3 days
                        @Others
Thanks for your suggestion guys. I will try to follow all your suggestions.

I will be planning to leave on 3rd Jan, saturday, maybe by 5 in the morning. unless something strikes in between and have to leave before 3rd.

Although I have no doubts, sometimes wonder if my FZ can take it all.

                          long trip

                          Hey Buddy,

Dont worry jus trust urself and even trust the bike.
U can make it easily, Jus hit the road and everthing will
be smooth and clear as u go by. U will build up more confidence
when alone. So chill mate and start ur journey.

divide the kms. ride half distance one day and the other half on the next day. in dat way even the bike wont be strained and u can have a peaceful ride.

also dont accelerate too much, jus keep fluctuationg ur speed around 70 - 80 kmph.

tc bro. have a nice and safe trip......
Ride Hard !!! Ride Safe!!! Enjoy every moment on your machine !!! Cheers....

best of luck for the trip dude..
i would suggest, try to cover upto 500-550 KM in first day. as roads are bad after that. for second day, keep less..

being solo rider, you can easily cover this, as no dependency breaks ..
